There are two musical acts named Main:
1- Main was formed in 1991 by Robert Hampson and Scott Dowson, former members of Loop.
Drawing on that group’s experimentation with drones and guitar texture, the duo moved further into ambient sound, eventually abandoning traditional percussion and rhythm altogether. Main's sound can be described as combining ambient sound with layers of electric guitars and dark, foreboding emotional overtones.
They released a number of albums and EPs to critical praise in the 1990s. Dawson left the group in 1996. In 2006, Hampson announced that Main had effectively been disbanded in favour of his solo work. In October 2010, he announced that he would be reactivating Main as a more collaborative process with other sound artists. In 2011, the German composer Stephan Mathieu joined Hampson for a current incarnation of the project.
2- MAIN is a electropop duo from Sweden. In 2014, Christina Post and Martin Permer made the first recordings for what would become MAIN - the dream of the dark pop landscape that Martin has so long wanted to create. But when something is so close to the heart, it tends to never be finished, never to be good enough, never to reach the heights that the dream once promised.
Christina came from the jazz world with its free expression, Martin from somewhat alternative electronic pop domains. They have written the songs together and since 2014 they collected one after the other. In 2021, they decided to create an album, and they got the Pbhmedia label to represent them.
