Likes Lions were an Indie/Alternative Rock band formed in Sheffield, UK in late 2009, originally consisting of vocalist Rich Bristow, guitarists Will Page and Greg Pritchard, bassist Kyle Rice and drummer Ross Haymes. Heavily influenced by the distinctive sounds of the Math and Post-Rock genres, the group paired electric-guitar finger tapping, intricate time signature changes, atmospheric soundscapes and live looping, with rousing vocal hooks and catchy, accessible melodies.
After playing shows alongside bands as diverse as Alt-J, The Chapman Family and Ghostpoet, the band released their debut EP Future Colour in October 2011. Following original drummer Ross Haymes' departure later that year to form Hurdles, they recruited new member Martin Ruffell and returned to the studio to record their sophomore EP First the Head, Later the Tale in the summer of 2012. Boasting a more expansive sound which included looped sampling, string and horn arrangements and spoken-word Alan Watts samples, the band's second effort was released in the autumn of that year, preceded by single Living as Ghosts. It would also be their last release, with the group officially disbanding in January 2013 after a series of shows to support the record.
According to the band themselves, although all express a fondness for lions, they actually prefer tigers.
Debut EP 'Future Colour' (2011) and second EP 'First The Head, Later The Tale' (2012) both available via their Bandcamp for free.
