I'm not, but I'm thinking about joining since it's depressing how many of my uploads to what don't get snatches. It used to be inevitable that each of my rips would get at least a few seedboxes grabbing it, but I guess they've stopped doing that.

No problem. Would it help if I started posting 16-bits again or would you not grab them? I stopped posting them because no one was grabbing most of them :(

Hey! If you mean Grand Mal: Studio Rarites, there's no "lossless" version, per se. It was created and released as 320kbps MP3s, much of it sourced from leaked rarities that were even lossier. We did our best to maintain and improve the overall sound quality with what we had. If your intention is to find the earliest generations of unreleased Elliott material, they can maybe help you over on the Alphabet Town message board. I know there was a single zip file of earliest available generations of most of the rarities, but the version I have is outdated by a few years.

My deepest regrets for losing touch - I did not acquire that C93 release we discussed, largely due to laziness, somewhat due to commercial holiday jibberish. I intend to soon.

:) Thanks. Well, I generally like progressive rock/metal in a pretty broad sense the most (simply because it has a lot of things that I enjoy in music), but I'm really kinda open for a lot of things. Yeah, I'm really curious about it. I enjoyed ADHD a lot, although I have to admit in the long term it has aged a little worse than I'd expected, and it was also a different kind of "heavy" than I'd expected, but still it's a very good album imo. No idea what are they going to do on the new album, but even looking at the EP I guess it's going to be something different again.

On the topic of collector's items, I'm actually not fond of collecting vinyls or records or anything like that - I get them because it's something I legitimately want to put to use and have. Should I want to discard it, I do exactly that, for free to friends or sometimes to people via internet. The whole eBay phenomena escapes me: what good is it to me to part with something beloved for money that I used money to obtain in the first place? Having a godly piece of work like Shadows of the Sun is only good to me because I can use it as a medium to listen to the music. The article might hold some value but the fact of the matter is that materialism is as good as dead with the advent of the internet

On second thought, I hope this isn't the quality because there's no way I'm burning 60 bucks on a record if it sounds like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csocVaUf8vw

Considering that they've done music for underground films it doesn't seem out of left field. I just doubt that any film released this side of the pond would bother with such an eccentric group. Hollywood goes for those Amy Lee types, anyway

News to me. I didn't even watch the original or the western remake, just heard a ton of press from NIN geeks who can't seem to hop off Reznor's case. From searching at a glance, it seems a Blood Inside track was used in a scene or something... I suppose they've had a silent ascent over time. They're really big over there in Europe. Wish they'd do a US tour that wasn't restricted to NYC, the shithole of the states, heh

Daylight Dies... I can't find a band that does what they do as effective as they do except maybe Saturnus, but comparing them is like apples to coconuts. They've somehow raised the bar for death/doom to a height the genre has a very difficult time meeting. I've heard Insomnium do a couple songs like them, but they can't exactly reach the reinvention Daylight Dies did for the genre. They had a few awkward steps at their onset but everything Dismantling Devotion forward is a real achievement for metal. I'll never forget anything about their music.

When it comes to the decision making on the part of the band, I doubt that any of them were in any true disarray. Daniel O'Sullivan should have amplified their efforts, and such an effort can be plainly seen on Dark Age. It brings to the table what Ulver did not on their latest offering: ruminating, thoughtful, challenging music that dared you to predict where it would go and how it would sound. They planned this whole cover album fiasco for years. It's in Ulver's blood to do something off the wall once in a while and I'm not going to be too miffed if I end up in disagreement with a couple of albums, but if this continues I'm not sure if I can appreciate their association. Still, it doesn't take a rabid fan who has an alcohol flask of a critically acclaimed Ulver record to tell Kristoffer Rygg and crew that, seeing as they're very aware their band walks the line.

Jester's obscure largely because of low sales as far as my research takes me. Shadows of the Sun enlarged their coffers to the brink: every distribution wanted a copy of Shadows and Ulver's back catalogue at that point. They're the avant-garde leaders of Norway as far as any genre connected to them, be it major or minor - who wouldn't want to have a record from such an inspirational group? I've seen a couple of their recent albums at record stores where I'm at, and I'm in the fucking sticks - it straight up caused a phenomena and Jester were pumping it out. But that was it. One artist, and a hell of a discography but one alone doesn't do it.

On a completely unrelated note but something I think you'll find very weathering nevertheless: http://www.decibelmagazine.com/featured/streaming-daylight-dies-infidel/ look no further for incredible death/doom

It's almost embarrassing to see him so tongue in cheek when not 5 years ago on Jester he could say whatever the fuck he wanted without worrying about what distributor is going to screw with them. He's mincing his words in the most eloquent of manner for all the wrong reasons. All the same, I'm very confused with his statement about Shadows of the Sun - while I'm in complete agreement that it's their boar's head on the mantle, it also strikes me as they've only just entered the threshold of neoclassical music. I think they could go further with the subject matter, and looking back the subject matter isn't as unpredictable as they would like you to believe: words and sounds concerning the loss of something or the reverence of nothing. They're the ultimate nihilists. I think the fact Rygg debases himself in this way is sort of childish for somebody so established, but I'm glad he doesn't think he's Kanye West either, hahahaha

I'm glad I'm not the only person that thought that - Shadows of the Sun is like their magnum opus in my horribly biased opinion. The vinyl version is on even ground with the CD version on this as well. I'm not sure if they're being mixed in the same place or by the same people or whatever the case may be. I'm looking forward to the new Ulver this time since they said they would be returning to a darker tinge of their catalog, probably dealing in matters of classical compositions meeting modern arrangements. Much like Shadows of the Sun was, I'll have anybody know, haha

I have a vinyl of Blood Inside from 2005 which features much of the same mixing problems. I don't know who was responsible for this off memory but Kscope re-released the vinyl with a remastered version of the album. Suffice to say I think the CD is just a rip of the original so that'd be a waste. I even did a digital conversion from the vinyl to be sure. Pretty disappointing considering how jaw dropping Blood Inside is

It's in perfect condition, signed by everybody from the band then currently including the Norrman brothers and Frank Default. It comes with a couple postcards, also autographed by the band, in a two vinyl sleeve with additional artwork not featured on the CD versions. It's on my wall right now but I'm just not happy with it considering how little I listen to it. Namely because of the fact it's next to my Shadows of the Sun vinyl which has notable wear on the gold cover thanks to it being played so damn much, heh

I still have to affirm while Dead End Kings is echelons above Night is the New Day that I could never get into the latter album. Want my signed vinyl? I can't even listen to the damn thing.

Familiar enough with "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race", his own side project under his own name which composes eerie folk music alongside his apocrypha and his muse and contribution to Current 93's work with I Have a Special Plan for This World and This Degenerate Little Town. For a while, during a very steep depressive period in my life I would listen to the tracks religiously daily. A humble admittance, that

A song with an introduction like Idle Blood just doesn't fit the mold of some of the better tracks. It sounds like they were integrating musical tracts that were common in other groups and saw what worked for them and tried to work it into their formula which turned to be a bit of an odd experiment as many times as I've tried to swallow it. Onward Into Battle, Forsaker, Departer and New Night are pretty incredible but the rest of the album feels inconspicuous next to it. I sincerely hope Dead End Kings kicks its ass. I told you not to watch it!

There are some songs off of it that are incredible but half the album just feels like stepping stones to the next decent one, and the video for Day and Then the Shade left a lot to be desired... spare yourself from watching it if you can, I thought I was watching Lifetime on acid

I do, but I've been having sibilance issues with my setup and until I figure out what's causing them I've pretty much put ripping on hold. Once I do figure it out I'm going to redo the DsO albums in the box that were ruined by sibilance first, then I'll probably get back to other requests.
