Hey, I remember you being another big Papa Sprain fan so I've come to post this: Gary just uploaded some rare old tunes of his that were previously never released on his new archive channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKrbg-0j_hgknp6_z4DjLWA/videos I actually had some of these tracks already, but they were in much lower fidelity than the versions Gary just uploaded, and there's some stuff I never heard before as well. Anyway, enjoy!

Hey, long time. Hope you're well. Been getting back into Hair & Skin Trading Company lately and it prompted me to think of you. I gotta get into some more Main stuff as all I got is 'Dry Stone Feed' (which I purchased way back in 1993).

That's awesome! How'd it go? I'm likely meeting Tyler for a beer later this month :D

I doubt the generational idea, mainly because I despised and abhorred pop sensibilities since I was aware of them - say, 1990 and onward? - and would doubly be reserved about opening up to anything that appeared remotely top-40 to me. Some aspect surely reminds you of that, I don't doubt.. but I just feel that it should be given a fresh chance. Like I said, the main difference I hear is a lack of haze. Please, play Ashes Grammar and then the new one back to back. Or AA and likewise?

That... indeed sounds like overreaction. Maybe you were in a poor mood? Honestly, having listened to their last two albums before and after a few more listens to the new one.. it's honestly only lost some haze - the song structures haven't really evolved since Autumn Again, which was slightly less hazy than Ashes Grammar to begin with. Superficial differences with their prior work, at most. It's punchier sure, but man.. Katy Perry? Give it another chance! It helps just letting go of trying to wrestle some cogent thought about it at first... save that for when it's done. get lost inside?

I'm not sure what specifically I like about it that's not something I already enjoyed about their sound.. it's more raw, direct sounding, but the song construction is not so different than Ashes Grammar.. it's just less obscured by that digital haze. Instead of emerging from a cloud, the tunes here just kind of leap out at you. I can't put my finger on it, but right now they're sounding like the more poppy end of good post rock like Disco Inferno to me. and to be fair - I really wasn't feeling it so much the first try. Then I listened again and it just clicked perfectly. I also went back and listened to Autumn Again and Ashes Grammar this week, then circled back to the new one.. I think that helped too. To me it's just not that different from before, especially after getting a few minutes deep into it and just letting it wash over.. hope that helps! I really think they're fantastic still.

Haha. The whole time I'm talking to him I'm thinking "this is surreal!". He is genuinely really nice. i totally thought there would be an aura of mystery about him but he was very straightforward. I wouldn't worry about you calling him a liar. He said doesn't read about himself on the internet, doesn't have a facebook etc. He'd probably find it funny anyway.

I really like the first three (especially the 2nd one) but I agree it gets more interesting as it goes on. Honestly you would not believe the surreal turn of events which led to me attending the aftershow. Not only that but to then be introduced to Kevin Shields and speak to him for half an hour, a week before the new album comes out......It was unbelievable. He told me (almost) everything. I felt I had a duty to let people know it was coming but not tell them too much, though I have to say I started to worry towards the end of the week that it might not happen!

do keep me posted. new albums going slow, vocalists changing around here and there but I think a guy doing some vocals here this month will work out good and once I have them in my hand I'll tell who it is etc. I might be releasing some stuff on a tape compilation out of germany in spring as well.

shit, now that I think of it I'm not sure I have a DL code. Hope it wasn't on the sticker thing. I really love the artwork, esp on the two newer ones. You had Zones Without People on vinyl already, right? also: annoying that people keep replacing the new (in my view) better Rifts artwork wtih the CD art. the old one now reminds me of Ferraro style 90's kitsch nostalgia.. (but in a still-ok way; I like the old school "CD Compact DISC" logo)

I'll listen to that song when I'm back on my pc; I assume it gives hope that he may actually release something this year?

Jesus, get a better one yet? That's odd for mexican summer/software to slip up. Maybe getting too big for their staff (Lopatin?) to handle? Also, do you follow him on facebook? He was just updating about recording in europe, with Ben Frost!

Did you check in every sleeve for the DL code? Maybe they just send it in an email or have it on the site, like bleep? I just realized I haven't get the digital version yet either, but I absolutely love the set, especially the final disc with pretty much exactly what I would have put on it.

Just read through your best of 2012 -- some good choices in there, and a bunch of stuff I aim to check out when my seasonal job gets out of the way of my music-listening time. Also leaving this to say cheers for the Mute Branches mention, too, and to leave this here due to your mention of the Can Tapes (which I need to get my hands on, as well as their other non-'Tago Mago' albums) https://soundcloud.com/mutebranches/can-halleluhwah-mute-branches.
