Presenting the innovation in ambiental fields: the so-called mythical/heroic dark ambient. With a touch of majestic and epic symphonies, inspired by the themes like Paleocontact, Atlantis descendency, and Ancient myths, Arkhaion is designed solely for one purpose - to lead you into your ancient and magical, Godlike past. http://www.last.fm/music/Arkhaion

Yep. Insects are not cute (but an important source of protein in many cultures), so nobody cares about them and consequently they are not used to garner sympathy for the cause. The excuse "insects don't feel pain, so we needn't fight for them and the agricultural insect holocaust is inevitable anyway" is hopelessly intellectually bankrupt since animal rights are not tied to the condition that an animal be able to experience pain or suffering, otherwise it wouldn't be "animal rights" but "vertebrate/crustacean/cephalopod rights" or whatever. Aaargh. Funny enough, vegans/animal rightists tend to have a misanthropic bent that makes Burzum almost appear like Gandhi; if they were not so chicken about the repercussions on them personally, some of them would jump at the occasion to kill off billions of people because humans are only a resource-hogging pest, except themselves of course. Well, I noticed that we had already discussed this when I scrolled down the shoutbox, haha.

Whoops, apparently we've already discussed that paradox long ago. >_< My bad.

Actually, the argument goes like this: Antispecisism is itself speciesist because two incompatible postulates are to be fulfilled: 1) Humans are only animals, too 2) Humans are special because they are capable of morality. If humans are only animals, they can, like other animals, kill animals of other species for their own benefit. If humans are not animals like all others, but are required to limit themselves in the favour of other animals, they are discriminated against according to antispeciesist doctrine. This paradox has not been resolved yet by vegans, attempts disappearing in the mist of vegan self-righteousness and diffuse "inevitability". Inevitability is also the magic concept that makes it OK to kill countless animals in agriculture growing the plant-based food that vegans consume.

You know, something I've never understood is how veg(etari)ans and animal rights advocates cannot seem to make their mind up whether humans are only animals or superior/different. If humans are only animals, then just like other predators such as lions humans cannot be held morally responsible for eating other animals, and in fact it would be "speciesist" to keep them from eating other animals. But if humans are "superior" (whatever that may mean) because they have a concept of morality (yeah, I know ... morality is a tricky and questionable concept), then eating animals is morally acceptable, too, and humans may even have a right to eat animals. But that's why animal rights advocates usually insist that humans are only animals and are not in any way superior (and hence allowed to dominate/keep/kill/eat animals). Either way, we have a dilemma. That, and the problem of animal rights without animal duties. I've seen animals compared with children and disabled by these people. What gives?

I can still hear your voices (meanings every antichristian we used to discuss with) inside my head. It's that instant criticism after everything I read/learn/talk about. There was always that voice, but now I can identify it with you guys. Sure I'm having fun, how about your life?

Baby getting aborted or eaten vs. salad getting harvested and perhaps continuing to live and possibly suffer - heh. Can of worms indeed. Damn, why can't the world be more black and white and ethics simple, and why can't we just eat agricultural pests instead of cute fluffy bunnies ...

The only reason against meat that makes - limited - sense is the ecological argument. Would all of mankind go vegetarian or even vegan, however, you'd run into new problems: arable land is very limited, most land only supports extensive agriculture - pastoral nomadism => you end up with animal products. Or you have to leave the animals to themselves, which, in the absence of predators, would mean uncontrollable multiplication => overgrazing => desertification. Man, most veggies just don't understand ecology. Most only seem to recognise two extremes: Vegetarianism, or eating three huge steaks a day. But a diet of, say, 20-30% (or even less) meat, 20-30% dairy products and eggs, and the rest plant-based (plus mushrooms) makes complete sense both in terms of ecology and health, and is also more like the regular diet outside Western civ. And it's not like I'm against people going veggie, quite the opposite! The more veggies there are, the more "green" meat remains for those who want it. :D

Oh, and I roll my eyes too when they say "I don't eat meat because killing living beings is wrong", as if plants and mushrooms weren't alive. No, according to some only marginally more twisted logic it's even more wrong to feel no regret eating the corpses of plants and mushrooms just because they are harder to feel empathy with, and they cannot scream, defend themselves by force or run away; it's just cowardly, hehe. As a friend of mine ones said, you could argue eating plants is like eating severely disabled people. xD

I was just reading http://www.lastfm.de/group/PETA+-+People+for+the+Eating+of+Tasty+Animals/forum/21361/_/482888/8 and futilly waiting for you to point the logical contradiction out between "we are superior to carnivore animals because of our mental facilities" and "we are equal to animals so we have no right to eat them", "animals" in this case denoting non-human animals of course.

Are any of those debates still on line? If you have some links, it would be interesting to read them. Hmph, I guess I'm just not good at debating or the kind of thinking that it takes to debate well. Too mathematical I guess. That's why it probably took me more than two decades to figure out that Xianity is bs. I've had just one debate on line and it left a bad taste, in part because I didn't do too well, and in part because the topic itself was a sort of concession that the Bible has (or should have) some value.

Well, that makes sense. But do you think that it's worth it, commenting them? I'm fairly recently deconverted (< 1 yr) and I don't see the point, unless they make the first move (and their religion dictates that they should). And even then I would probably just say something like, "Show to me that you're a Xian, in view of John 14:12." Since they obviously can't do it, that in my opinion knocks the bottom out of anything else they might want to say.

"You can't make a SERIOUS punk rock song about how wonderful it is to obey the law, drive the speed limit, stay sober, not vandalize park benches, love George Bush, walk old ladies across the street, etc. You can't make a SERIOUS emo song about how much you love life, your family, and school. You can't make a SERIOUS chart-topping pop song about how you love staying chaste. You can't make a SERIOUS Black Metal song about peace on earth (unless of course, you mean post-apocalyptic type of peace ;P), worshipping the Christian god and following Jesus' teachings. Some genres are defined by more than just their sound." Amen to that

That and the fact that you spend more time with maggots (literally). Seriously, how can a millipede occupy so much of your time? I mean, it's not like playing with a dog or riding a dolphin (or playing D&D, where you can fight huge millipedes with your pet dog, while riding a winged dolphin). No offence, everyone has a weird pastime. I chose Theology, it's gonna be easy. Next year, I might switch to Psychology, no studio homework either.

You could just read what I wrote to your "friends," but I'm giving you a fair warning before I kick or ban you from the group. I've waited long enough and you guys are getting carried away. Here it is. The last time I'm saying something. If you can't say things that truly helps the members of the group... and you know what I mean... then that's it.

Oh, and don't try to respond as if I am whining about your semantics, and/or much less intelligent than you, because ,frankly, I am tired of hearing it. You claim to want an intelligent debate, but all you do is repeat yourself and pound others down with patronization and self-appointed superiority. In my opinion, it is a very small man who uses "debates" as a soap box to attempt to showcase the dogmatic nature and ultimate ignorance of people he disagrees with. I see no problems with your logic or your arguments, but with the way you handle yourself and your over-sized ego.....well that is a different story. That is all I have to say, I will not waste space in saying it again.

Wow, those are some hefty assumptions. "stick to the guns of creationist literature"? "lack the imagination to step outside it"? "(My) own self righteousness"? Sounds to me like you need some refreshers. I said: ATP is unstable. You said: "Covalent bonds are unstable?". In this you proved that you were ignorant about the nature of ATP's Phosphate bonds, which I corrected you about. To that you responded by saying I missed a "HUGE" step and then repeated yourself. It's not that I don't understand what you are trying to say, it's just that I don't have large amounts of respect for people who cover up their own mistakes via patronization and disrespect.
