Hey Joel! Hope you're going well, would you have any recommendations for albums similar to Merriweather Post Pavilion, I remember you listening to that back in the day and it blows my mind still.

Hey Alastair! That's kind of tricky... Closest thing that comes to mind would be the first two albums from Black Moth Super Rainbow, "Falling Through a Field," and, "Start a People." Not as sunshine-poppy as Merriweather but a very similar feel. More psychedelic and less indie. I would also recommend "Vespertine" by Björk (more introverted), "Kid A" by Radiohead (much darker and much more abstract)

Cheers, appreciate the recommendations. Don't think I've heard those before, except probably Vespertine years ago, should be good!

I like the way you think. I'm so sick of everyone acting like there god's gift to music.

To be honest, this is the first post-1977 Yes album that I've actually heard. I've heard some pretty good things about Magnification though, I'll probably check that one out.

Yes just released their new album. It's definitely nowhere near as good as their 70's material obviously, but it's definitely much better than their 80's/90's stuff. Kinda weird hearing them without Jon on vocals, but the new guy does a pretty good job I guess. Pretty decent album overall, at least worth a listen.

Evil Urges had it's moments, but it was far too inconsistent. It was like...one song would be psychedelic, then the next one would be alt-country and didn't flow very good. Jim's vocals sound much better on this one though. It's much more fluid and the songs flow together much better. The title track "Circuital" is really great.

I'm not sure if you still listen to them or not, but the new My Morning Jacket is definitely worth hearing. It's much more consistent than Evil Urges, though sadly the psychedelia is all but gone. It's still really good though. Probably their second best album next to Z.

I think it's better than Dear Science though. DS was at one time one of my favorite albums of 2008, but it just doesn't have the "staying power" of Desperate Youth... and Return to Cookie Mountain and I really never listen to it anymore. I kinda feel like this album is going to end up the same way.

Honestly, I'm not sure yet. I mean, there are some good songs on there, but then there some songs that I just can't get into. I think I need to get it more listens.

Wow, that album is fantastic. I didn't realise how great Devin's old work would be. Thanks

Is the non-Devintowsend project stuff good? I like Ki and Addicted!, I don't usually like regressing to older albums.

She has a really cool sound and a great voice, but when it comes to female art pop singers, I've been kinda obsessing over PJ Harvey's new album lately. Anna Calvi actually reminds me of PJ Harvey in a lot of ways, albeit more retro-sounding and less folky.

I'm still trying to make up my mind on it. I do enjoy the songs, but nothing has really stuck out for me yet. I definitely need to give it a couple more listens before I make my final judgment.

Did you listen to the newest Alcest album? If I can recall correctly, I was not impressed by it.

Hello! If I remember correctly, this probably won't bode well with you, but... TRAA's male vocalist reminds me a lot of the guy from Neutral Milk Hotel, though, the music itself is relatively different. Not too sure what to compare it to, if you were to listen to just one song, I'd say "Don't Haunt This Place"

You need to listen to Natural Snow Buildings. Find the album "Shadow Kingdom" if you can. They are a VERY underground french ambient folk-drone duo, and are absolutely excellent.

Have you heard Bear in Heaven? You should check their album out as it definitely as a huge Animal Collective influence to it. I wouldn't consider them a rip-off though as their music seems to have a more dreamy Mew-like vibe to it. I'm really digging them right now.
