Synthprog (also known as synth-prog or progressive synthrock) is a genre of rock music that relies heavily on the use of synthesizers and other electronic synthesis-based instruments instead of electric guitars. The "progressive" aspect comes from the use of unusual time signature changes, unorthodox lyrical themes, lengthy song time, and the lack of any popular song structure.
Not every song has to adhere to these definitions, as is the nature of progressive music, but those are common aspects of progressive music generally.
