James Yorkston and The Athletes was the name initially used by Scottish folk musician, James Yorkston, when he recorded a number of albums with a number of friends and associates between 2002 and 2006. The Athletes were: Faisal (percussion, harmonium, lap steel), Reuben (accordion, concertina, piano), Holly (small pipes, whistle), Doogie (double bass, banjo), Wendy (violin), John Bews (violin).

The albums credited to James Yorkston and The Athletes are: Moving Up Country (2002, Domino Records), Just Beyond the River (2004, Domino Records) Lang Cat, Crooked Cat, Spider Cat (2004, Fence Records) and, finally, the live album Live at Le Poisson Mouillé (2006, self-released).

All of these albums may also be credited to James Yorkston and are, nowadays, credited to him and listed as such on streaming platforms.
