Cambridge, United Kingdom (1996 – 2000)

black:not:green are a Cambridge, UK 4 piece combo that describe their music as “industrial tinged drum’n’bass”, “dance fuelled techno-rock”, or “big beats, big guitars with vocal hooks to hang your hat on”.

Formed at the start of 1996, black:not:green’s objectives were to screw with people’s minds, “show the bird” to the notion of pigeonholing music and to give likeminded punters a legitimate excuse to ignore the “middle of the road”. The band features Roger Kelly (vocals), Albino (samples & programming), Tim Dodd (guitar) and Sam Buckland (drums).

Black Not Green released 3 albums: their self-titled debut in 1996, Broken Window Theory in 1997, and Hyperkarma in 1999. The albums received various accolades, including The Mix magazine Demo Of The Month (April 1998), and Guitarist magazine Demo Of The Month (Feb 2000).

The band also released two EPs, Supercharge and Semi-Unplugged. The Semi-Unplugged sessions in 2000 led to the creation of the 2liar side-project.
