Zahl is an americana group from Bergen, Norway, founded by Geir Zahl, a Norwegian singer-songwriter best known as one of the two founders of alternative rock band Kaizers Orchestra. The line-up consists of Geir Zahl on vocals and guitar; Christer Knutsen on piano, organ, guitar and backing vocals; Pål Hausken on drums and backing vocals; Bård Halsne, on guitar and backing vocals and Eirik Lye on bass guitar.

Songs for the project were written by Zahl in 2005 and 2006. After many subtle hints on the part of Kaizers Orchestra regarding a possible Zahl solo project, information about Zahl was released in late 2006. The group’s first live concert was held on February 2, 2007, a performance that was broadcast on Norwegian radio. Their debut album, Nice For A Change, was released on February 19, 2007 on Kaizers Orchestra’s record label Kaizerecords.
