Young Steve's self-described "jerk pop" has been crafted in basements and clubs in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area since 2017. Beginning with 2018's Tell Your Neighbor Not to Worry, the group sold a brand of scrappy, noisy indie rock with moments of surprising melody, which was only refined further on 2019's split EP with New York's Nazca Plate, titled The Hyundai Tapes.
2019 also saw lineup rotations, a tour, graduations, and the release of their second LP, Cuba. Three years of relative silence followed, broken up by releases from various side projects and occasional drops of demos and unreleased materials.
In 2021, all five members gathered in a cabin in Indiana for ten days in the summer to record what would become their third album, Make Me In A New Shape, released in 2022.
Pieced together from bone, flesh, and air, Make Me In A New Shape is the first Young Steve album written and recorded with all five members, and captures the idea that lives at the heart of all their music; the fear of and desire for change.
