Biography

Βαγγέλης Γερμανός (Vaggelis Germanos) was born and raised in Pireaus, Greece and attended the University of Thessaloniki where whilst studying Mathematics he, along with his guitar (which he loved since he was a child), was sharing an appartment with (now) Greek rock legend (but then unknown) Παύλος Σιδηρόπουλος.
During his studies he played several small pubs performing covers of Bob Dylan and The Beatles (and if rumour is to be believed also helping Σιδηρόπουλος with some of his early compositions).
When he returns to Athens he plays alongside with yet another legend Διονύσης Σαββόπουλος.
In 1974 he decides that he won't be able to make a living out of music and would better concentrate on Mathematics, however in 1981 for some reason he changes his decision and takes 20 years worth of songs to Διονύσης Σαββόπουλος who (fortunately) pushes him along to his first (and best) recording.
Thus was recorded one of the most important Greek Rock albums Τα μπαράκια (Little Bars) in 1981.
Since then he has produced steady quality work and is currently touring throughout Greece.
Βαγγέλης Γερμανός's songs are characterized by a subtle nostalgic poetry and melancholy sounds. His folk style of one guitar and a voice is reminiscent of the folk artists of the 60's but lacking the political criticism or rebellious undertones. His is a voice of rainy noons and autumn leaves.
The man himself is rather low key and although he has appeared in two movies and several TV Series he has never sought the spotlight and prefers to make what he loves most to speaking about it.
