The Wiseguys

Somewhere between laid back , . and , popular group The Wiseguys used atmospheric samples produced by DJ Touché (Theo Keating) and Regal (Paul Eve) in the British tradition of The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. Their critically acclaimed debut, titled ‘Executive Suite’, was released in ‘96, soon after which Regal left, leaving DJ Touché to release their second (and final) LP, titled ‘The Antidote’, in ‘98. Supported by rappers like Sense Live, Tito-T, Mr. Mojo and Season, they created some American style old-school touch cult classics, before officially disbanding in 2001.

DJ Touché now goes by the pseudonym Fake Blood and makes up one half of the The Black Ghosts (the other member coming from the now defunct electronic group Simian). Regal has released some solo material since 2006. Over the years, talk of a reunion have long endured, and fans don’t count the group out just yet.

While Executive Suite may be there magnum opus I always had pointless hate for The Antidote for it's more Big Beat sound but after more recent listens the sound of the first album is still very there and very good.

Anyone founded something similar? The Avalanches are great, but I'm looking for something more. I just can't stop hunting for more stuff like the one done by The Wiseguys : (

I'm trying to find a video of The Wiseguys performing Ooh La LA live on Top of the Pops - did anyone know they asked Ugly Duckling to perform it with them? I need to see it!

I remember when I flipped my record of "Ladies Say OW!" over to the b-side and first heard "The Real Vibes" play...absolute magic. Best 9 minutes of my life..if you haven't heard that tune then I suggest you check it out.
