Biography
The Royal Drifters was formed back in 1957, from McKinley High School in the Territory of Hawaii. Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959, this is where the song, Da Kine came from. They were originally 7 members, 2 of the Royal Drifters left to join the Air Force. All of the members were born in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The group opened the show for all the Rock n Roll stars from the mainland, they performed at the old Civic Auditorium, on King St., Honolulu, HI. The group made 2 records on Teen Label Records, also, backed up Robin Luke in Susie Darling, which made the billboard charts and was on Dick Clark Show.
This information is shared by Walter (Wally) Choi, one of the original Royal Drifters, I live in Atlanta, GA., retired from the US Army and US Postal Service.
