The Romanovs

1) The Romanovs (formerly known as Morgan Grace and then The Hidden Hands) only released one record under that name. Each player was a product of the classical world, all having been trained in their respective instruments from a very tender age (piano, cello, violin).

As a group they opened for bands such as Rasputina and Paris Loves L.A., and toured with Veruca Salt. Wes Precourt has supported Justin Timberlake, played the Grammys, soloed with national orchestras and serenaded the dedication of the Heifitz studio. Ana has played with Arthur Lee and LOVE, The Eels, Trent Reznor, Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, Gnarls Barkley, ZWAN, Kidney Thieves, Brian Wilson and Sparkle Horse to name a few, Dan is the founder of Music ‘N Me, a school dedicated to music education for small children, and finally Morgan has sung on the trailers for “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, “Pride and Prejudice” and “Lady in the Water”, and left the Romanovs to collaborate and tour with French electronic/shoegaze band M83 (for the album Saturdays=Youth).

Winners of the 2007 Toronto Independent Music Awards where they won for Best USA Band, The Romanovs released their debut and final album “…and the moon was hungry…” in November of 2007.

Morgan Kibby: Writer, Vocals
Wesley Precourt: Violin
Ana Lenchantin: Cello
Dan Rosa: Piano
Randy Cooke: Drums

2) The Romanovs are also an independent alternative rock band from Minneapolis. They released their first album War & Peace on August 16, 2009.

I dare to say that "...And the Moon was hungry..." is one of the most beautiful and impressive albums I've ever heard. Such a pity the band is so underrated and has (apparently) come to an end.

Beautiful music... Everything is subtle and strong at the same time. I really like the choice of instruments, the sound they make together is really lyrical. Morgan's voice really matches it, it's very poetic. Melancholic vibe of the band is matched perfectly by the really feeling-capturing lyrics. I'm really enjoying them, it's a pleasant surprise... I thought they would be just your-standard-dark cabaret band, but they are so much more... I really hope they will release again their album in the physical form and perhaps make another one. I've checked White Sea and M83, but the magic is lost for me without the classical instruments and with electronics overload. Anyway, it's great that such amazing music is being made in our modern times, it seems that people still have a need to be in touch with beauty and their soul...
