Hailing from Los Angeles, The Gun Club was a psycho-punk-blues outfit created around the genius of Jeffrey Lee Pierce. A half Mexican obsessed with the tradition of old blues men, Blondie (he managed their fan club), deep American roots bands (Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band), and roots reggae, Pierce teamed up with Kid Congo Powers and started playing under the Creeping Ritual moniker. After changing their name to The Gun Club and just before recording their first and classic album Fire Of Love, Powers left to join The Cramps, not returning until their third album, The Las Vegas Story. The rest of the band was completed by Terry Graham (drums), Ward Dotson (guitar), and Rob Ritter (bass). Later members included Patricia Morrison (ex The Bags and future Sisters of Mercy and The Damned bassist), Romi Mori (bass, guitar) and Nick Sanderson (drums).

Fire of Love is a mixture of psycho-blues-punk. Listening to it is a haunting experience, the record is brooding with furious intensity. Pure rawness, like Pierce himself, whose self destructive nature may have been at the root of their commercial failure. Alcohol and drug abuse resulted in his death in 1995. The Gun Club released several more albums, the most remarkable being Miami (82) and Mother Juno (87).
