The Border Surrender are an English rock band based in North London and are signed under Smoky Carrot Records. The band members are Keith Austin (vocals and guitar), Simon Shields (vocals, guitar, bass guitar and mandolin), Johnny Manning (keyboards, melodica, glockenspiel & accordion) and Mark Austin (drums and vocals).
They spent much of 2009 developing their writing skills and honing an original style that sets them apart from any other band around.
The bands influences are predominantly drawn from the US and Canada from the likes of Buffalo Springfield, The Band and Neil young to more contemporary artists like My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses.
Although their inspiration comes from far off shores they have still managed to produce a very home grown creation with a distinctly British flavour, inspired by the DIY ethic of recordings such as The Basement Tapes and Exile on Main Street, along with more recent releases from the likes of Bon Iver and the Fleet Foxes, The Border Surrender have opted to record in the self built basement studio of their North London home in order to create a more organic and endearing quality of sound.
