Biography

Taking pieces from the Halifax pop scene of the early 90’s, a little Cali pop-punk and the echoing choruses of stadium rock, Take Part has been making honest, straight forward rock music since 2010.

Next door neighbours Colin Darcy (vocals, guitar) and Curtis Spriggs (keys, vocals, guitar), started writing songs together in early 2008.Their complimentary musical styles and influences, as well as Curtis’ younger brother Eddie (bass, vocals), formed the foundation of their first band, Around Town. After losing a drummer, the band dissolved, but Colin and Curtis continued to write and learn how to record. With a handful of fresh tunes and recording equipment, Eddie suggested bringing high school friend Sean Parsons into the fold in late 2010 to play drums and to forge the missing link that would become Take Part.
Influenced mainly by their shared love of the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Blink 182, Take Part employs bits and pieces of their largest influences to create a rock and roll Frankenstein that is fresh, upbeat, and most importantly, fun as hell. Together, these guys use the guitar, keys, bass and drums band-member-composition to form a uniquely retro sound that is somewhere in between pop-punk and classic rock, layering lush vocal harmonies and dual guitars over a driving rhythm section. This combination of talented instrumentalists has resulted in an uncanny musical style that is recognizably Take Part.

In a live setting, Take Part combines their high-energy sound with their peculiar sense of humour to create an atmosphere at live shows that fills the room with laugher, fun, and the occasional sound of a band. A Take Part live show is something to be had. Their confident stage presence and constant banter between the band and the audience is hilariously entertaining. Appropriately named, Take Part totally exemplifies the growing desire for audience participation. As a result of their on stage energy, they have built a continuously expanding, and equally as energetic fan base.

With Curtis at the helm, using his knowledge of the recording process, Take Part have released two self produced recordings; their debut full - length Albert in the summer of 2012, and a five track EP The Harbour released in October 2013. With a busy schedule playing shows, writing, and recording, the guys rounded off 2013 with a hectic October and November, showcasing in Toronto for Indie Week, back home for Halifax Pop Explosion, heading up to Sydney for a showcase at Nova Scotia Music Week, and finally, accepting a showcasing slot at Canadian Music Week in Toronto in May. Currently working alongside Two Hours Traffic front man Liam Corcoran, Take Part show no signs of slowing down in 2014.
