Biography

Slechtvalk is a Dutch Melodic Black Metal band with some folk influences. The name means “Peregrine Falcon”, a bird of prey. The band started out as a one-man project by Shamgar. After the release of The War That Plagues the Lands, Slechtvalk grew to a band with members Shamgar, Ohtar, Nath, Grimbold, Hydrith and Fionnghuala.

In the following years the were some member changes; the current line-up is:
Shamgar - guitar/vocals
Ohtar - bassguitar/vocals
Seraph - guitar
Grimbold - drums
Premnath - keys

Their music mostly includes primitive war themes played dark-black-viking way. Their current sound resembles acts like Amon Amarth, Naglfar, Dimmu Borgir.

    Im pretty sure you people coined the term Viking metal as a tag for them and not the band. All warriors of that time period dressed similar. Just because they have axes and swords doesnt make them vikings. Their lyrics have never been about Vikings.

    I tried to like this band some years ago. I like the christianity thing and the musicianship is good too, but... it didn't work out. Now I'm trying to like the new album. It's better, more diverse, more Black Metal. But still: doesn't work for me. I find this band to be rather, well, uninteresting. I guess it's that "Viking" thing - who defines a genre by the lyrics anyway? It's a Black Metal with some weak folk influences and lyrics about war, family and stuff. I'm kinda dissapointed.
