Biography

Shaka Ponk (sometimes abbreviated as SHKPNK) is a French electric-rock band created in 2000. They mix different forms of popular music into their songs in addition to world music although predominately with a electronic-rock sound. Lyrics are written mostly in a mixture of English, French and Spanish languages.

Shaka Ponk is a Paris-based band that has created a sound that blends electro, rock, punk, and dance with a stunning live show that combines advanced digital animation with an unsurpassed display of energy from the band members. Released under the French record label tôt Ou tard/ Guess What! (Yael Naim - Piers Faccini), Bad Porn Movie Trax is composed of fourteen high-energy tracks including singles “How We Kill Stars” and “Do”.

Shaka Ponk got its start between Paris and Berlin in 2005 from a concept that brings together music, imagery and activism. The former web designer and imaginative frontman of the group, Frah, along with guitarist, CC, came up with a highly original project that combined conventional rock-n-roll elements (dirty guitar riffs and cardiac stimulating beats) with new techniques such as VJing, which mixes sounds and images around an animated monkey character named Goz who is as much a part of the group as the other five members. Since then, the band has been extremely active online creating complex videos and innovative motion graphic work as well as their own online channel, “Monkey TV”.

    Quel dommage que le groupe se fasse connaître par ses derniers morceaux, qui sont justement les moins bons ! Il y a bien mieux que My Name Is Stain, Run Run Run et Let's Bang, chez Shaka Ponk. Exemples : Funky Town, Do, How we kill Stars, My Boom is Bumpin', French Touch Puta Madre, Hell'O et j'en passe. Néanmoins, Shaka Ponk reste l'un de mes groupes préférés. Beau boulot les gars, on attend votre quatrième album !

    Je les ai vu lors d'un festival de musique et je m'attendais quand même à mieux. Ils ont fait plus un show qu'un bon concert de rock.. Je ne veux, cependant, pas rester sur cet avis négatif et je compte bien remettre ça mais à un vrai concert cette fois car il faut bien l'avouer... Shaka Ponk c'est un gros bordel et fait honneur à la musique Rock française!!

    J'aime bien leurs morceaux mais en live c'est du grand n'importe quoi (à part pour ceux qui viennent pour se défoncer plutôt que pour écouter de la musique)
