Los Angeles, United States (2007 – present)

Serj Tankian (born August 21, 1967 in Beirut, Lebanon) is an Armenian-American singer. He started as a singer in the band System of a Down and after they went on hiatus he continued his career as a solo artist and producer. He is known for his gritty yet wide vocal range. His solo output mixes various styles and genres, including metal, rock and Armenian musical motifs.

At age five, Serj Tankian moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California. After high school, he studied marketing. He took singing lessons for four years and also took guitar lessons as a young child. In 1993, he founded the band Soil (not to be confused with SOiL) with Daron Malakian, which later went on hiatus, and later changed to System of a Down. Tankian is not only a member of the band System of a Down, but also has his own record label which is called Serjical Strike Records, a sub-division of Columbia Records. He also performed guest vocals on songs such as Mushroom Cult by Dog Fashion Disco, and Mein by Deftones. He produced “Enter The Chicken” by Buckethead, and provided vocals to the Buckethead songs “We are One,” “Coma” and “Waiting Here.” With Serjical Strike Records, he endeavors to offer those musicians often ignored by the mainstream a possibility to release their music and be heard. The first release of Serj’s new label was Serart, a project consisting of Tankian, himself, and Arto Tunçboyaçiyan, an Armenian friend of Tankian’s.

I'm suprised that you found any beauty in those completely random sounds Serart created. I won't admit that every work dude has done is good because I like him in his previous albums lol. Keep goin' and enlighten other ppl.

Охуенный мужик, но лучше всего ему быть в SOAD. В соло у него выходит не так классно, пусть и неплохо.

Serj is my perfect man, he is awesome, but I'd like him to make some music with SOAD :)

I should have guessed that Classical and Electro-Jazz Fusion would be too much to handle for the general Serj/soad fanbase.. Broaden your horizon guys. You may learn something new about yourselves.. I am honestly shocked by that Serart comment. If you cant even see the beauty in that one, you are lost my friend. BTW there are no such thing as 'alternative music'. Sounds exist, therefore we can make music. Everything else is just marketing bullshit.

Dude please, he tries to be alternative too hard and that's why we get such garbage as serart and his new albums. I understand he want to create something fresh and new, but it doesn't have to sound like shit.

Serj is cool, talented, and smart, but anyone who says his solo material is better than his work in SOAD is just lying to themselves.
