Portland, United States

Peter Broderick (born 20 January 1987 in Portland, Oregon) is an American musician and composer. He has released solo material under his own name, been a member of Efterklang, and played and/or toured with several ensembles including Horse Feathers, M. Ward, She & Him, Norfolk & Western, Laura Gibson, and others. His solo work is quite varied, but is often grounded by piano and/or strings.

Broderick he grew up in a small town of Carlton, near Portland, Oregon. Coming from a musical family, he started violin lessons at age 7, and in high school became interested in all different kinds of instruments. He started to play piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin, musical saw, and anything else he could find. After high school he moved to Portland, OR, where he studied music theory and filmmaking. During this time he began to play in multiple bands around town, and was able to establish himself as a regular session musician at various recording studios for artists like M. Ward.

In late 2007 he was miraculously invited by some of his musical heroes, the Danish band Efterklang, to move to Copenhagen and join the live band. So he did, and since then he has toured with the band all around the world, playing hundreds of concerts, and opening many of them as a solo act.

I don't think this record is an attempt to redefine his sound, or explore more abstract musical elements. I think he was trying to attempt to record the essential inertia that comes from the thought process during writing music and or the influence that derives the pieces. He said that, "I've Tried" came from him just beat boxing around his house. That's it! We all do this. We all have these melodies we hear day bay day or stories that ignite our compositional clockwork, but we never utilize them, because it tends to be random jumbled mess. Peter sought to bring them to life. I think this album is his most intimate work to date. He's really trying to complete his musical identity. We are all just lucky to see where it evolves to next.

I'm liking 'These Walls of Mine'. There's a warmth to its weirdness, and a feeling that he's enjoying everything he's doing

To be honest, I haven't been feelin' any of his releases from this year. I hope he doesn't try to pursue a rap career later because it's not gonna happen.
