Biography

Dr. Pearl Williams-Jones (June 28, 1931 - February 4, 1991) left an indelible imprint on African-American sacred music. A magna cum laude graduate of the Howard University School of Fine Arts, she excelled as a performing artist, pioneering scholar and trailblazing educator.

For Dr. Pearl Williams-Jones, gospel music was more than just another musical form. It was - in the words of her landmark Ethnomusicology article - "a crystallization of the Black aesthetic."

Dr. Pearl Williams-Jones performed around the world in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall in London and Suphiensalle in Munich.

Her penetrating vocals convey the spiritual power and earnest faith of her Pentecostal religious heritage. Her virtuoso piano stylings demonstrate her mastery of classical European technique, seamlessly uniting two musical schools which are worlds apart.

Royal Highness Recordings proudly presents this limited special edition of her signature recordings "Songs Of The Soul And Spirit."
