Biography

Los Angeles, United States (1997 – present)

The members of Orgy — Jay Gordon (vocals), Amir Derakh (guitar-synths), Ryan Shuck (guitar), Paige Haley (bass), and Bobby Hewitt (drums) — have described their music as “Death Pop” in the past, but few agree on what to call their blend of rock, metal and electronica.

The band was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1997 and signed to Korn’s Elementree record label soon after. They quickly released their first album, “Candyass.” Soon after, they performed the duty of opening act on the Family Values tour in ‘98, where they were introduced to many for the first time. Around then, they had their first hit with a cover of New Order’s Blue Monday, followed with successful singles for Stitches and Fiction (Dreams In Digital). After the release of their second album, “Vapor Transmission”, they left Elementree records, and largely disappeared from the public eye.

Bobby briefly joined Snake River Conspiracy for a while, and Jay formed his own independent record label, D1 Music, with his father. In 2004, Orgy’s third album, “Punk Statik Paranoia,” was released under D1, but with little to no radio play or recognition from the mainstream music media.

Ryan and Amir have also started a side project known as Julien-K, with a much more electronic focus, and have released a song featuring the vocals of Chester Bennington of Linkin Park on the recent Underworld Evolution soundtrack. They have since formed the project Dead By Sunrise with Bennington.

The album art and organization on here bugs me. There's a difference in the album art of Blue Monday [UK RELEASE] & Blue Monday / Stitches [US RELEASE] and Stitches [UK RELEASE] & Stitches / Dissention [UK RELEASE]. And the "Vapor Transmission Bonus Disc" release is only for one of them. I think there were five? You got a different disc depending on where you bought the first pressing of Vapor Transmission. Those are the only discs I'm missing. Other things that bug me are things like how last.fm doesn't show the true albums for songs like "Hot Legs" and can't distinguish the different versions of "Santa's Creepy Secret" grouping them both under "The KROQ Christmas Album" when Orgy released a special promo Christmas single (Happy Holidays From Orgy) with a slightly different version along with the Fiction Drum and Bass remix on it. I'm hardcore OCD when it comes to music labeling and have been a fan since the candyass days [and was obsessive before PSP].

@tomdrama - That's because "The Obvious" was a demo from Vapor Transmission that was re-recorded for PSP. PSP is good but it's not excellent like CA & VT.

I don't know how anyone could think Grime is worse than Punk Statik Paranoia. I feel aside from the cheesy title line, it's a return to a more Vapor Transmission sound. All that's missing is his old glorious vocal effects.[2]

totally agree @ matdreamspeaker. im excited for it and nothing is worse than psp. what i cant believe is people bashing this new orgy (which is realy interesting imo) and not bashing the HORRIBLE julien-k stuff. that band has become a comlete trainwreck with horrid influences and ryans vocals are just bad. its become like a wanabe hipster band.. lol :/

Yes, so did Elijah. "Elijah Blue Allman - additional vocals on Revival, additional synthesizers"

@matdreamspeaker vocals in "Revival" are done by Jonathan Davis from Korn

Jay Gordon was in Deadsy before Orgy as a live bassist and also loaned vocals to the Deadsy track "Seagulls" and Elijah loaned vocals to "Revival" as well as did synthesizer work on a few tracks on candyass, Deadsy has always been an influence on Orgy's sound. Can you not hear it in their first two albums? It's super heavy.

'Grime of the Century' consists of ex-members of DEADSY thus an adaptation of ORGYs original sound - that fuckin' blows my mind.
