Biography

  • Born In

Vancouver, Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Drawing from his own experiences, Norman creates songs and stories & props that delight the ears and eyes. He weaves imaginative word play with great melodies all to great effect.

Norman Foote, born Norman Mervyn Barrington-Foote claims his name forced him to develop a sense of humour at an early age. At age 11, Norman's parents gave him his first guitar, a finely crafted instrument from the Sears Catalogue.

This set the stage for a lifelong dream. With idols including The Beatles, Hank Williams and Elvis, it wasn't long before Norman switched to electric guitar and performed with garage bands during his high school years.

When Norman was 20, he left his home in Vancouver, Canada to explore Australia and New Zealand, and made his living as a street performer and songster. Norman first developed an interest in puppetry and physical comedy through his association with a travelling theatre troupe in New South Wales, Australia. Still hooked on music but enthralled with the art of puppetry and comedy, Norman chose the only feasible solution - to combine all three.
Norman has created a very special niche with his irreverent comedy and skillful music. He has written and recorded songs for Disney Records, Shari Lewis, CBC syndicated t.v. show "Scoop & Doozie”, and most recently the live musicals for “Max & Ruby” and “Toopy and Binoo”. Norman has received four Parents Choice and NAPPA Gold Awards, Pacific Music Industry Awards, Socan’s Songwriter of the year award and most recently, 2010 JUNO & WMCA awards. His music videos include “One Thousand Pennies”, “Lets Sing a Song,” and “The Progress of Man”.

He has had the undeniable pleasure of performing with symphonies, festivals and in
concert halls throughout North America including the Oklahoma City Philharmonic,
Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, London Symphony, Montreal
Comedy Festival "Just For Laughs", Galway Festival- Ireland,
and literally countless others.
