Biography

Nachtmahr is a name of least three artists:

[1] An pseudonym of Thomas Rainer (aka L’Âme Immortelle and the defunct Siechtum).

Inspired by numerous years of DJing, the first release, “Kunst ist Krieg (i.e., Art is War)”, and it’s club hit, BoomBoomBoom, quickly became worldwide industrial club staples and earned the band a slot on the soundtrack of the American blockbuster movie, SAW IV.

However, the success of the EP was far surpassed with the release of the full-length album, “Feuer frei”. The club single Katharsis dominated the clubs for months, helping the album to stay in the top 10 of the German Deutsche Alternative Charts (DAC) for more than 6 weeks. Germany’s biggest and most influential dark music magazine, ORKUS, even stated “Feuer frei” was “the new standard for the electro industrial genre”.

During this period, Nachtmahr extensively toured through North and Central America, Europe, and Russia - including major worldwide festivals like Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Kinetik Festival, and M’era Luna - whilst preparing their second full time assault, “Alle Lust will Ewigkeit”.

With it, the Austrian Industrial project continued on the uncompromising and relentless path of destruction with their now-trademark heavy distorted beats, driving bass lines, and addictive melodies. This notably lead “Alle Lust will Ewigkeit” to the No. 1 positions for both single and album in the Deutsche Alternative Charts.

Feindbild is like a less shitty version of VVV. It still has the feel that he's just putting out another album, and not so much pursuing a different style. The style actually seems closer to his older albums than VVV does IMO.

Where are the scooter-style anthems? I don't see any "hits" from the new album in the top tracks.

rose4rome Yeah I agree with you. But I dont think the new style is bad. Maybe Thomas just tries something different. Veni Vidi Vici was a little bit similar actually. Its still one of my favorite bands. And actually this was the one which brought me more into the overall Electro Industrial Genre some years ago. Too lazy to list all genres up now.

This particular project of T:R became popular for two reasons - massive tbm bangers and epic aggrotech anthems. "Feindbild" carries neihter of those, instead it offers a bunch of bleak ebm/technopop tunes, one fat cover version (with female vocals), a couple of tolerable aggrotech pieces and a lovesong in the end. Maybe it's me being othrodox but it's not the Nachtmahr I remember. =)

I dont think the new album is bad. But its different and thats maybe the problem with it. It sounds a lot like Veni Vidi Vici but without any club tracks, if you ask me. Nothing like "Dunkeldisco". Only I Hate Berlin and Liebst Du Mich? are a little bit more clubby. I like it as it is but I miss the club tracks. And I like how Thomas is playing with different sort of vocals. Distorted, less distorted. Oh and the album cover with the book is great! Maybe even the best of all covers! So this album has its pros and cons.

Ok, "The Torch" is quite good as well. But still, two or three proper tracks on an entire album is not impressive.
