Biography

On the 10th of July, 1988 Torrey Thornton, better known as Mercee, was brought into the world. Practically with a mic in his hand at birth, he has taken on the industry from the early age of 15 as a solo artist. By the turn of the century, he was starting to walk in the foot steps of his older brother Merc, whom already had a group with Burn Unit, called Mercenary. Through several attempts at becoming Boss-Smit’s next big break through, the CEO/House Producer didn’t think he was ready yet. In ’02, Mercee got his first big shot on the song entitled “Tears” from which he was featured by another Burn Unit group, Southern Tides. The response to his debut smash was too overwhelming for Boss to pass up, making Mercee the next rapper to expand the horizons of Burn Units’ already well, established label. As 2003 rolls around, his debut album “Da Rouge” is born, proving him to carry the load of a solo act as well as earning a spot as a member of Mercenary. The group finds many struggles in getting their first album out, with Big Bear(former Southern Tides now Mercenary member) going to jail in ’04. Yet another year goes by before Mercenary is back in the studio to complete “Streets, Sins & Sacrifices” which is set to be released in Sept. of ’05. Unfortunately, the back-bone of Mercenary, Merc, was killed in the involvement of an Aug. 6th ’06 double homicide. With the release date pushed back yet again to 2006, the group has had more set backs than they can hardly bare. As if there wasn’t enough anguish at Burn Unit, Mercee was arrested on gun charges and possession leading to an ’07 probation sentence. Now 22 years old, with two sons, and a story that could be made into a best-seller, Mercee released "Da Reinvention”in September of 07 featuring the hit singles “Snapper” and “Roll the Dice On Em”. His upcoming CD, "The Relapse" promises to be his best one yet featuring his new single, "Lemme Holla at Ya" which has received nothing but great feedback. His solo career also features him on Aubrey Clayton’s “Hit it Right”, with openings for big industry names like Young Joc, New Edition, and Shop Boyz. With a lyrical flow as smooth as Jay-Z combined with a rap as street as Jeezy, Mercee will inevitably be known as a household name before you can say Burn Unit.
