First EP:

Lights Fade Low's first EP brings an epic cinematic feel to modern down-tempo and trip-hop.

Lights Fade Low mixes haunting melodies with modern beats, a rich sonic palette, and lush vocals, to create a unique and compelling sound.

Hailing from Seattle, WA, Lights Fade Low is the work of singer-songwriter-producer Darren Apfel, who studied music theory and technology at Yale University’s Center for Studies in Music Technology.

Lights Fade Low’s debut EP captures the essence of lust, loss, and longing and features Apfel trading verses with the incredible Seattle vocalist Aradia Correnti in rich and evocative exchanges.

The CD opens with Cold, a sexy lounge song in which Aradia asks “Can you feel me / Can you smell me / Can you taste me / When you’re all alone?” It’s followed by a disturbing, yet triumphant trip-hop powerhouse, Touch that’s rich with cinematic sound and assures the listener “No one will hurt you / The way that I hurt you.” In Looking, a brooding down-tempo piece, Apfel asks Correnti “What is wrong with me / That I keep coming back / To this place I can’t exist / This time that’s clearly past?” The tone of the album turns to dangerous love in its second duet, Want, where Apfel warns Correnti “I say what I shouldn’t say / I look where I shouldn’t look / I touch what I shouldn’t touch.” But love fades, and Aradia’s beautiful voice is solo again in Say, as she states, simply, “I haven’t changed / but you feel strange / what else can I say?”
