Biography
Kenny MacKenzie Trio is a piano jazz trio that has been playing together with various line-ups since 2000. Their sound has been called "exuberent" and compared to that of Ramsey Lewis, Keith Jarrett and Vince Guaraldi. MacKenzie cites Michel Camilo, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Bill Evans as influences. Members have included Josiah Wolf, Nathan Peck, Yoni Halevy, Mike Savino & Chris Higginbottom, among others. The band maintained a steady presence in NYC from 2001 through 2004 at clubs like Arthur's Tavern, Louis Bar, Cafe Creole & Kavehaz. Their most recent album "Closer to the Day" (2007) added Shenole Latimer on alto sax for most of the tracks and was received well by critics and radio stations in the US. A new trio album is expected to be released in 2009.
