While the Kamelot from Tampa is the most prominent band of this name, there are more bands using it in the world:

1) Kamelot is a power metal band from Tampa, Florida that incorporates progressive and symphonic elements into their music. The band was founded by guitarist Thomas Youngblood and drummer Richard Warner in 1991.

In 1994 the band signed a deal with Noise Records; the release of their debut album Eternity followed in 1995. The next album, Dominion, was released in 1997.

Later that year, two of the band’s members were replaced; drummer and founder Richard Warner and lead vocalist Mark Vanderbilt. Respectively, their replacements were Casey Grillo and Roy Khan (Roy Sætre «Khan» Khantatat from Elverum in Norway - formerly of Conception). With the two new members, Kamelot released their third studio album, Siege Perilous. The new line-up undertook an extensive tour through Europe during the fall of the same year only to return to the Gate Studio in Wolfsburg twelve months later to produce the fourth studio effort The Fourth Legacy.

The summer of 2000 brought the “New Allegiance Tour” through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Greece and Spain during which the recordings for Kamelot’s first live album The Expedition were made. Only a few months later the band presented their fifth album entitled Karma, to the greatest critical success yet. Their sixth album, Epica was released in 2003.

That sucks, I glad that it is like a rule that power metal bands are never ever allowed to disband.

Hell Kamelot is the only band I fully and still trust now. My favorite band just disbanded so I'm going back to Kamelot for hope. XD

They haven't disappointed me yet, so I'll give the new album / singer a shot. I've found something to like even in my least favorite releases from Kamelot. I do worry if they are going to change a lot, but I haven't gotten that impression from what Thomas has said. (Then again, not sure how many bands under this much pressure would come out and say "Hey guys, we're doing something different now!") I suspect it'll be a rather "safe" album, especially if the sound they are going for is Karma / TBH.

With or without Khan, I'm sure the growth in song writing would have happened. And it's not like he started with the band only for them to immediately take off, either. That took some time as well for everything to mesh. Siege Perilous wasn't exactly a masterpiece (its really not much of anything tbh outside of Millenium), and TFL seemed like the real beginning of their transition into the band we know today. Whoever the new guy is, he deserves a chance. At least you're more reasonable than the "KAMELOT IS DEAD WITHOUT ROY" crowd. They're insufferable.

It's pretty much certain they wouldn't be where they were now without Khan, his voice shaped the band. I don't think his influence on the music will just disappear with his absence after all of these years. Yeah, he has a fantastic and unique voice. But there are tons of other vocalists out there who have great voices. Thomas said it would be more like Karma / TBH. As long as the music is strong and the vocalist is decent, Kamelot will continue to make good music. :D

Sorry, I should have clarified, my last post was more me ranting about what someone else said on a forum, not directed at you. I didn't say you thought the other band members were bad. Other people who tend to say "Kamelot is dead without Khan" often seem to speak as if they feel the members aren't important. And yes, there first three albums were definitely generic power metal, but it was NOT because of the vocalist (although, Vanderbilt wasn't anything special). The music then was overall "eh," at least to me. Khan has certainly helped the band evolve, but I'm sure they can continue moving on without him singing for them. They all have more experience now with songwriting, and they're all pretty good musicians.
