Biography

Music, Theatre and fine arts have always been Jakub’s passion. He has been awarded many prizes in fine arts and musical competitions, both in Poland and abroad. Forest, the artwork prepared by eleven-year-old Jakub, gained recognition of the jury and earned him distinction in an international fine arts competition in Taiwan. Three years later, Jakub was admitted to Wojciech Gerson General School of Fine Arts in Warsaw. For the next five years, as a student of the School, he was developing his art skills as well as his vocal craft under the supervision of teachers and opera singers. In 1999 Jakub participated in the preparations to Janusz Józefowicz musical Peter Pan by Janusz Stoklosa (music) and Jeremi Przybora (libretto). Even though the audience of the Warsaw Musical Theatre ROMA was to see Jakub just in a few years’ time, it was Peter Pan that began his adventure on the musical stage. In 2000 Jakub designed scenography projects to Evita musical set in Rampa Theatre in Warsaw. His work was awarded third place and was thereby placed among the works of famous Polish scenographers. Jakub has always dreamed of setting up his own, independent Theatre. In 2004 his great dream came true - Palladium Stage Theatre appeared on the musical map of Warsaw. In October same year Jakub was invited to attend a casting to Roman Polanski musical The Dance of the Vampires. Cornelius Baltus (the play director) noticed Jakub among many other candidates and gave him the chance to test his skills at subsequent auditions. As a result, in March 2005, Jakub Wocial was casted as Herbert in the premiere cast of the musical. At the same time, in May 2005, another theatre premiere took place in Warsaw. It was a musical, hip-hop version of the play The Paul Street Boys based on Ferenc Molnar novel (directed by Dariusz Sikorski). In the production, set in Wola District Theatre in Warsaw, Jakub was casted as the younger Pásztor. The activity of Jakub’s Theatre, Palladium Stage, should be mentioned as well. In December 2005, on the stage of his Theatre, Jakub performed Symphonic Pictures recital – a small-audience play based on the works of A. L. Webber: The Phantom of the Opera and The Woman in White. In September 2006, the recital was followed by another musical spectacle of Palladium Stage - a small production of The Phantom of the Opera by A. L. Webber, designed for a petite stage and cast of just a few actors. This time Jakub starred as the title character, he was also directing the play within the scope of self-designed scenography. Together with his actor friends he created a splendid piece of work, as moving as the full version of the play. In October 2006, after 120 performances starred by Jakub, The Dance of the Vampires musical was taken off the repertoire of the Musical Theatre ROMA. That same month marked the beginning of The Dance of the Vampires rehearsals for the Berlin version of the musical. Jakub stars as Herbert in the second cast, he also performs vocal and dance ensemble. The premiere of the musical was held on 10 December 2006 in Theater des Westens in Berlin.
