Hiromi Uehara (上原ひろみ, born 26 March 1979) is a Japanese composer and . She is known for her virtuosic technique, energetic live performances and blend of jazz with other musical genres such as , and in her compositions. She performs as a trio alongside bassist Tony Grey and drummer Martin Valihora. On October 19, 2006, the trio added guitarist David Fiuczynski (from the Screaming Headless Torsos), to form Hiromi’s Sonicbloom.

Hiromi first mesmerized the jazz community with her 2003 Telarc debut, Another Mind. The buzz started by her first album spread all the way back to her native Japan, where Another Mind shipped gold (100,000 units) and received the Recording Industry Association of Japan’s (RIAJ) Jazz Album of the Year Award. Her second release, Brain, won the Horizon Award at the 2004 Surround Music Awards, Swing Journal’s New Star Award, Jazz Life’s Gold Album, HMV Japan’s Best Japanese Jazz Album, and the Japan Music Pen Club’s Japanese Artist Award (the JMPC is a classical/jazz journalists club). Brain was also named Album of the Year in Swing Journal’s 2005 Readers Poll. In 2006, Hiromi won Best Jazz Act at the Boston Music Awards and the Guinness Jazz Festival’s Rising Star Award. She also claimed Jazzman of the Year, Pianist of the Year and Album of the Year in Swing Journal Japan’s Readers Poll for her 2006 release, Spiral.

@Slamacques "She practically has sex with the piano" That sentence is gold. I couldn't have put it better myself.

Saw her live here in Miami around April. She was phenomenal, and even signed CDs afterward.

good, really good, but the acoustic works are a bit boring.. the music is too dense, too much notes. ( per gli "amici" from italy ) brava, bravissima, ma i suoi pezzi acustici sono anche tanto noiosi :( bisogna anche saper togliere le note, bisogna imparare anche a stare zitti qualche volta.

Sorry, but I have to post an adulatory rant right now. I was in the first row in Prague last night, on the left - right under Maestro Uehara and her piano. I'd been looking forward to this concert since June, my expectations were very high, and I was still taken aback. I've never seen anything like this before! One touch of the keys and it's like she's in her own universe. She concentrates, she jumps, she dances, she stomps her feet, she hums and moans to herself. She practically has sex with the piano, in the most literal way possible without causing public indecency. I'm sorry, did I say "sex"? The proper term, of course, is "makes love". My apologies to Messrs Jackson and Phillips, they're outstanding musicians in their own right* - but they're playing alongside someone who IS music...

Love the new album, and don't worry about the Trio Project, I don't think anyone uses that as the official tag, even the official Soundcloud and some online retailers are sticking with just plain "Hiromi". I've uploaded some new photos from her Move photoshoot please vote them up!

New album called 'Move' out now! Technically 'Hiromi Trio Project', but I can't help tagging all her songs 'Hiromi'...
