I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before

Few realize that she was instrumental in furthering Olivia Newton Jones career...as well as several others. She starred in Pete's Dragon and sang the Oscar Nominated song "Candle on the Water". The road to stardom was rough for Helen....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Reddy

"I am woman hear me 'Roar'?" And women below are saying that is no way to treat a woman? What about the way they are treating men? That was a very strange time in the 70s, when women thought they should have it all, that men should do everything, and they should GET everything. Well it just doesn't work out that way. Nor does it work out that we can just throw our babies in the trash (by the way of abortion). Yes, these "choices" lead to atrociousness and CANNOT be taken lightly. Our families are breaking down -- one in two families break down, there is an epidemic in young girls who are taking care of babies alone (and why shouldn't they, they said they didn't want a man, and could do it themselves, they didn't want a man, they'd rather ROAR!). bABIES are literally being left in trashcans. Yes, I believe in equality, but sometimes that means different roles. Before men and women just ROAR at each other, to "try to make each" other understand, try talking. God bless you. :)

It all started here... "I first wrote the song in August 1970," explained Burton. "It was first released by Capitol Records in late 1970 as an album track on Helen Reddy's first album. It was what they call a 'sleeper' in the music industry. In other words, it sat on the album doing nothing for 2 years and then as the women's liberation movement gathered momentum, Capitol Records released it as a single. The women's liberation movement then adopted it as their anthem and the rest is history." http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2226
