The German organist, Hannes Kästner, was member of the Thomanerchor Leipzig and studied with Günther Ramin at the Church Music Institute of the Leipzig Musikhochschule from 1948 to 1952.
In 1951, whilst still Student, Hannes Kästner became organist at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. In 1960 he became a lecturer at the conservatoire, was granted a professorship in 1976 and in 1984 came to head the organ department, whereupon he gave up the post of organist at the Thomaskirche.
An excellent Organist, Hannes Kästner has given concerts in many parts of the world. Numerous pupils; indebted to him for the thorough trainiug hc gave them in the tradition of the famous "Leipzig school".
