Biography

  • Born In

    Budapest, Hungary

Gábor Lázár was born and lives in Budapest. He has generated a body of work which dissects 2-step, grime and electro with expert precision. Super-forward techno reductions combining viscerally affective electronic timbre and hyperkinetic patterns.

Since 2014, Gábor has done performances at culturally and professionally important venues such as ZKM - Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie in Karlsruhe, Berghain in Berlin, The Empty Gallery in Hong Kong or La Casa Encendida in Madrid. As an artist in residence, he spent one week at EMS - Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm where he worked with the legendary Serge modular synthesizer. He had a two-week long audiovisual solo exhibition at House of Electronic Arts in Basel where he made an installation for 12 LED lights and sound. Lázár’s with the work Omnidirectional Synthesis for 4DSOUND is to create a close connection between pure sound synthesis and our perception of space. Working with one single instrument, his composition is characterised by a process of balancing between construction and deconstruction, consonance and dissonance, repetition and change, predictability and randomness, generating series of variations from these different processes. Though driven by generative techniques and precise automations, a clear emotional intensity and sensitivity for details emerges from his abstract approach to sound and space.
