Hameln, Germany (1995 – present)

When “Funker Vogt” was founded in 1995 by Gerrit Thomas and Jens Kästel, nobody could foresee that, within just one year, it would grow into one of the leading -acts of today. Originally, it had been envisaged as just one more of Gerrit Thomas’s many musical projects; however, the project took the world by storm and grew to become his main act.

The members consist of Gerrit Thomas, Jens Kästel, Björn Böttcher, Frank Schweigert (who replaced Thomas Kroll in 2004), and Kai Schmidt. They all hail from the town of Hameln, Germany. Jens Kästel recently announced on the band’s website that Funker Vogt’s November 30, 2013 show in Berlin was his final show as lead singer for the band.

The name of the band translates from German to English as ‘Radio Operator Vogt’, taken from a friend of the band who was a navigator/radio operator in the German army. This choice of name describes and defines the theme of the project: German army - military - war.

The responsibilities/roles of each member of the band are clearly defined: Gerrit Thomas composes the music, while Jens Kästel is the singer. Most of the lyrics are written by Kai Schmidt, with occasional contributions by Jens and Gerrit. In concert Jens and Gerritt are supported by two guests, namely Björn Böttcher (keyboard) and Thomas Kroll (guitar). For three years Kai Schmidt managed the band, when he handed the management over to Repomanagement (KS/BB).

You know what, after seeing "Sick Man" I think I'm done with Industrial, excepting perhaps the instrumental and apolitical. I've lost my belief that there is any refuge to be found in irony after repeated public incidents involving these groups linking them with decidedly unironic neo-nazi and satanist activity. These artists do not even have the boon of being profound in some way by acknowledging evil while condemning it, martial lyrics set to an energetic beat exist solely to fetishize violence and power. All art is ritual, and the hold that symbols have over the human soul is not to be understated. Ask yourself if the influence of these kinds of oscillations is desirable.

they should do the band a favour and change their name - that way the new singer wont lose their reputation

Funker without Jens, ain't Funker anymore. Geralt alone wont save the reputation of the band i think. Jens is bringing THE FIRM though, so that means we can still have him in a way. Oh well.. Oh and that new video with the new's beyond me. To say it was disgusting and terrible is not gonna be enough.

@liamebm you mean fake blood. electro industrial 'musicians' never used real blood, cause they're pansies. the only ones that ever possibly have are alien vampires and maybe suicide commando in the very early days but i can't be sure about that one.

For me I won't be buying any new Funker Vogt without Jens Kästel. It's just not the same. I really don't like the new stuff. :(
