Hameln, Germany (1995 – present)

When “Funker Vogt” was founded in 1995 by Gerrit Thomas and Jens Kästel, nobody could foresee that, within just one year, it would grow into one of the leading -acts of today. Originally, it had been envisaged as just one more of Gerrit Thomas’s many musical projects; however, the project took the world by storm and grew to become his main act.

The members consist of Gerrit Thomas, Jens Kästel, Björn Böttcher, Frank Schweigert (who replaced Thomas Kroll in 2004), and Kai Schmidt. They all hail from the town of Hameln, Germany. Jens Kästel recently announced on the band’s website that Funker Vogt’s November 30, 2013 show in Berlin was his final show as lead singer for the band.

The name of the band translates from German to English as ‘Radio Operator Vogt’, taken from a friend of the band who was a navigator/radio operator in the German army. This choice of name describes and defines the theme of the project: German army - military - war.

The responsibilities/roles of each member of the band are clearly defined: Gerrit Thomas composes the music, while Jens Kästel is the singer. Most of the lyrics are written by Kai Schmidt, with occasional contributions by Jens and Gerrit. In concert Jens and Gerritt are supported by two guests, namely Björn Böttcher (keyboard) and Thomas Kroll (guitar). For three years Kai Schmidt managed the band, when he handed the management over to Repomanagement (KS/BB).

Jens was the power of Funker Vogt... Now they need to do instrumentals only...

SUCKS... Jens is the voice of Funker Vogt. I don't know if I will cope with a new singer.

Too bad! I just found this notice. Do they have another new singer? I´m sure they are not going to be the same!

translated the German written message left on the band's Facebook page for you: Dear Fans & Friends, the time has come to share something with you which has troubled me for the past few days. The show on 30.11.13 in Berlin will be the last where I'll be appearing as frontman of Funker Vogt. I will not speak publicly about the reasons behind this decision, because my loyalty to Funker Vogt was & still is for me the highest priority. The past 18 years with good and bad times has been an important part of my life, I will always treasure it with pride. I would like to thank those who have supported me as a singer of Funker Vogt all these years. Your support was what drove me and made it all possible. I don't find the adequate words right, so I'm simply going to say this: Thank you again. We'll see what time brings. Jens Kästel

I think "Hard Way, Faster Life, Kampf den Maschinen, Child Soldier, Fallen Hero, W.o.t.W, Obscure Picture, The End, Date of Expiration, Thanks For Nothing, Lost In Translation, Gunman, and Fabrik" should be at the top of the list.

Six Feet Under is pretty cool. The album is good but not great. Why leave Hard Way off the album??? That is one of their best songs ever!
