1. Derek William Dick, better known as Fish (born 25 April 1958 in Dalkeith, Midlothian) is a Scottish progressive rock singer, writer and actor. After an early career as a gardener and forestry worker, he came to public attention in 1981 with the British group Marillion, which he left in 1988.
Album sleeve artwork for his four Marillion albums and most of his solo albums has been done by Mark Wilkinson.
Fish is not to be confused with Phish, Chris Squire (“The Fish”), Barry Melton (“the Fish” of Country Joe & The Fish), grossa or Bradley Fish.
He has worked with many other artists, including Tony Banks (Genesis) and Arjen Anthony Lucassen’s (Ayreon) as the Highlander in Into the Electric Castle.

It was amazing to realize that Miles de Besos (from 13th Star) actually tells a true story that happened to Onkel Fish in my hometown, Santiago de Chile. It's a rather sad story, but it's nice to walk around the Concha y Toro fountains after hearing that one. The Concha y Toro neighborhood is a really nice and calm part of the center of the city, which is almost hidden from all the mundane noise of every big city.

When you see his solo carreer and Marillion's carreer, it is fairly obvious that they wanted to go into different musical directions. By the way, Fish never wrote a single note of music, so his influence on Marillion's albums was limited to the lyrics and his singing. On his current tour, Fish is playing some great acoustic versions of both his solo years and Marillion classics, I was really impressed by his performance in Paris last week.
