Biography

Drama Society is an artistic affair between the two Italians Luca Baldini (from Moody Preachers project) & Sergio Ricciardone (from Xplosiva clubnights with Giorgio Valletta). From the beginning (autumn 2002) Luca and Sergio shared the same interests and passion for Italian arts and movies, from composers like Morricone to directors such as Marco Ferreri and Pasolini till authors as Dino Buzzati, Moravia and Calvino. Obsessed by the idea of drama in daily life, they decided to put their vision of life into electronic music.

Their first single "Liars" (including "Liars", "Teorema", "Polaroid") was released in November 2003 on Turbo Recordings.
Tiga introduced their single with these words: "I was blown away by a refreshing take on the minimal sound. DRAMA SOCIETY are tastefully and subtly creating dancefloor techno that manages to combine the purity of minimal with the character of electro. Turbo is proud to present their first 12inch, three tracks of slightly experimental dance floor minimalism that defies genre. The first from a talented duo that we will all be hearing a lot about in the future".

The single got great reviews from international music magazines like The Wire, Dj Mag (which also featured half page interview in its "What's Next?" section), Jockey Slut, Muzik, Groove, Raveline, Rumore, Blow Up, and many others, getting immediately charted as sureplayer and tune of the month as well as gaining support and props from DJs as diverse as Ricardo Villalobos, Agoria, Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Angel Molina, Michael Mayer, Dj Hell, Roman Flugel, Chloe and many others.

Their second single "Crying Hero", released last October 2004, and spiced up by sensual vocals from Turner (Mute rec.), also features a remix from Tiga and a bonus track: "Papa Luciani's Strange Death.
From Tiga: The 'SOCIETY are back in effect and this time they decided to make a pop-dance anthem just because they can… Crying Hero is like the best bit of Underworld, but with an updated, minimal and totally original sound. I can't really compare it to anything. I do know that everyone is playing it".
"Crying Hero" has sold more than 5000 copies, and has been included in loads of playlists, charts and very recently in last "Global Underground" compilation by Danny Howells as well as Trax magazine cd sampler.

After falling in love with the b side "Papa Luciani's Strange Death", Tiefschwarz decided to include the track in their latest DJ mix compilation "Mish Mash", as well as the "Crying Hero" Tiga remix.

The increasing interest around the duo brought Sergio & Luca to get signed on Fine Recordings/Four Music. "The Accident"/"Orphan Elle", a double a-side ep, was the first shot being released in December 2004, followed, in June 2005 by the technopop hit Crescendo, which features once again Turner on vocals! and a obscure remix by Alex Smoke.
From Tiefschwarz: "DRAMA SOCIETY from Italy are amazing with their releases on Turbo and Fine… they just surprise everybody - we love this north Italian techno vibe".
From Trax magazine: "The Accident's got a fantastic energy!".
James Holden, Ivan Smagghe, Damian Lazarus, Luke Slater, Layo, Craig Richards, Phil Hartnol (Orbital), The Hacker, Headman, Undo & Vicknoise have all been strongly supporting both the records!

With some successful live performances (including SONAR in 2003 which was broadcasted live on John Peels BBC1 - RIP) plus djing through the best clubs and festivals all over the world including cities like Montreal, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Rome, Milan, Turin, Bolonia and so many more, the future still looks very busy for Drama Society.

The personal approach to dance music and the evocative impact Drama Society put in every record and gig made the worldwide popstars Pet Shop Boys asking Luca Baldini to program and arrange part of their long awaited new album released last spring 2006, confirming the fresh talent of the duo. Chris, Neil and Luca closely worked together for more than 4 weeks in March 2005, blending each others inspiration and ideas in a studio experience which Luca describes as unforgettable.
