One of television’s most prolific composers, Don Davis was born on February 4, 1957 in Anaheim, California. As a young boy, he took great interest in jazz and began composing music at the age of 12. Soon after he landed small one-time jobs as an arranger for various jazz ensembles and small orchestras.

Interested in pursuing a serious career in music, he attended the University of California at Los Angeles, where he discovered his affinity for composing film music, under which he studied composition with Henri Lazarof and orchestration under Albert Harris. The latter introduced him to television composer Joe Harnell, of “The Incredible Hulk” fame, who was extremely impressed with Davis’s style of orchestration. Harnell became Davis’s mentor of sorts, and secured him a spot in professional television and film scoring. For the next 20 years, he encountered non-stop success, working on over 40 television series and made-for-TV movies, including the successful Sea Quest DSV, Beauty and the Beast, and Tiny Toon Adventures.

In 1994, young directing brothers Larry and Andy Wachowski discovered Don Davis after seeing his work on Sea Quest. They hired him to compose their first feature film, Bound, released in 1996, which became a box-office success. Only 3 years later, they hired him again to compose their film The Matrix, now considered one of the greatest Sci-Fi films of all time. This film opened Don to the world of major motion picture composition. Since working on the Matrix, he’s worked on 14 other motion pictures.
