It’s easy for people to rip on this band nowadays for being cliched or dad music but their debut was a solid nwobhm album and it even released before Iron Maiden’s.

For the record, the 40th anniversary of Pyromania came out on Friday and it sounds outstanding, its actually its 41st anniversary but it got delayed for a year. I haven't heard the remaster on vinyl yet, so I can't comment on its sound, but the remastered cd sounds great. Next up hopefully is Adrenalized, a few of the songs on that one are corny as hell, but the power ballads like White Lightning are damn good.

So, did Rick Allen actually play drums on the album Hysteria? I've seen conflicting sources. One says that he plays a partially electronic drum kit but on Wiki it says that, "all of the album's drum sounds were samples" played from a synthesizer called Fairlight. Can any Def Leppard fan shine a light on this?

He used an electronic/acoustic custom combo kit, some of the sounds are triggers from a Fairlight while others are real drums. On Pyro, the drums might have been written by him but were programmed sounds from a Fairlight. That is why the tempo on Pyro is spot-on

That is interesting and Pyro was pre Rick accident so they were already playing around with it then.

Yeah, Mutt Lange was trying to get a particular sound, so instead of Rick recording the parts, they were machine written

Saw them live, with Motley Crue, they were simply perfect, such an iconic band and skilled musicians. Seeing live Rick Allen also is one of the most emotional things ever!

As a kid I hated this band because they were popular and I am edgy. Now I am old I realise that they had some great pop rock songs. But OH MY GOD. That new single which is just animal's vocal track played over some stupid orchestral score is one of the worst things I've ever heard in my life. WOW.

Not really keen for their later period AOR stuff. Early day recordings are very nice NWOBHM material. Though I understand their shift to more pop oriented rock because Rick Allen lost his arm and could not play hard rock anymore.

Not to make light out of a horrible accident, but they were better off for it tbh

As one of the world's best-selling music artists, Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and have two albums with RIAA diamond certification: Pyromania and Hysteria, making them one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling more than 10 million copies in the US.

I love Vivian Campbell's stuff with Dio. Anything similar in his Def Leppard work?

I never had them on radar because I only knew some of their old classic hits. But I just came to some of their Albums when I was originally searching something else... I have to say they have some really good fun songs! It sounds like something between you could call "Dadrock" and Boybands to me. Which is no offense, I like that! XD But I have a feeling I do rather not want to know anything else about these guys...

I think the lads have been taken for granted. Def Leppard are always on the road. It took a global pandemic to slow their schedule down. They absolutely rocked the 80s. Had some good stuff afterwards too. They had a lotta colours on their palette. They rocked hard in the early 80s and adorned the walls of teenage girls by the end of the decade. Did they sell out? Maybe. Still made killer music.
