Toronto, Canada (1986 – present)
The Trinity Session is perhaps their best known record, recorded live in a single day on a single microphone in a church in Toronto. This album also included a unique cover version of Lou Reed’s “Sweet Jane”. Reed reportedly liked the Junkies’ version of the song better than his own, and began performing their version in concert.
None of the band’s subsequent albums have been hits outside of Canada, although the band has maintained a dedicated following and have continued to have chart hits in their native country. Following their 1998 album Miles from Our Home, Cowboy Junkies were dropped from their major label contract. They have continued to release albums on their own independent label, Latent Records.

I wish "The Water is Wide" or "Sad to see the Season Go" would show up once in a while. No one can put those those kinds of emotions into songs like Margo can. No one else even comes close.

Just got back from Sziget, and although I was in the front row at Motörhead and Judas Priest to name a few (and those two were absolutely amazing), the artist that really stuck with me was Cowboy Junkies. Never heard of them before, I thought they were some new obscure band. But their songs really spoke to me, and right now I'm just browsing through their discography. So far I haven't found a song I don't like :)

These guys are so wonderful. I heard/saw them in Austin; Margo looked gorgeous and sang her lungs out, and the band just tore it up. What a show that was!

As much as I love the group, with a CD name like demons, I think it's time I let them go. There are enough demons in this world and enough people following that kind of thing without realizing Jesus is not at all impressed with this inappropriateness.
