Norway (2003 – present)

“Combichrist” is an group, formed in Norway and currently based in the United States.

In 2003 Andy LaPlegua of “Icon of Coil” wrote a few / cross over tracks under the name of “D.r.i.v.E.”. This was changed to “Combichrist” when the debut album, “The Joy of Gunz” was set to be released on Out Of Line. The name Combichrist originates from a hardcore fanzine LaPlegua made during the late 90s, with “Jr Ewing” guitarist Håkon Mella.

The follow up EPs, and the clamour for live shows, sent Combichrist out on the road where they would become known for their strong and energetic performances.

Their second EP, “sex, drogen und industrial”, spent 7 weeks at number one in the DAC charts.

In March of 2007 they released their third album “What the fuck is wrong with you people?”. “Today We Are All Demons”, was released on January 20th, 2009.

The band had been selected to support industrial metal band “Rammstein” for their 2009 European tour and continued to support them during the 2010 part of the tour.

August 2010 saw the release of “Making Monsters”, which had full tracks available for streaming on the website, each track being rolled out for a new one. Combichrist undertook a tour in support of the new album in late 2010, with “Aesthetic Perfection” and “iVardensphere” as the support bands.

Their most recent album, “No Redemption”, was released in January of 2013 in both single and 2CD versions. This album was the official soundtrack album for the video game “Devil May Cry” and caused controversy amongst their fanbase due to a shift in style to industrial metal. The limited edition bonus CD was essentially a greatest hits compilation.

New album is great. Much better than No Redemption and better than Making Monsters. People forget about KMFDM and such. Fuck industrial.

Track 10 was fun, reason it was the one chosen to be the single for this album, not exactly a beauty queen but when you see the other tracks shes standing along side shes not so bad, dare I say cute. Then we painfully make our way towards the end of the album, the final track is a decent surprise with another interesting acoustic track that ends all too soon as the other half of the track was made to make us go huh what the hell was that about. Which is actually what we should be saying about the entire album in general. Serious tho You Amount To None is awesome, would have rather had an album full of that than watching an ebm band try their best to impersonate a metal band. Nothing wrong with metal, but generally I've noticed people who like metal prefer their metal not to suck. Then again with all the sub genres these days suckcore may exist, hell post-suckcore may exist. On the bright side it was still better than angelspit's new album, but to be fair they set the bar really low.

You Amount To None should have totally been on the new album as it is in fact better then everything else on the album and it is a song worth hearing. It's an eccentric melody that is addicting as hell. As far as the album actually goes the highlights were the first 42 seconds of track 1 was amazing then it got drowned out by generic sounding metal for the rest of the song. Then it kinda was all one boring blur of tracks till track 7 which was a pretty sweet acoustic song. Then track 8 dropped some acid, but it was quite a meh trip till 2 mins and 40 seconds into the song it started to get interesting, but the acid trip unfortunately wore off a mere 25 seconds later just in time for track 9 to start which was such a generic metal song it made you realize track 1 wasn't so bad after all because it could have been a lot worse (See track 9).
