Carlis Star is the brainchild of Simon Cowan’s bedroom demos. Having re-located from Cambridge to Manchester, brothers Simon and Alf recruited best friends Shona Melvin, Joel Sloan and Nick Cooke to complete the band line-up and play the songs live.
The band had a busy first 12 months on the live circuit performing at events such as Leeds Festival, Liverpool Sound City, SXSW in Austin Texas and a club NME tour, including a packed out KOKO (ex Camden Palace) in London, in support of the debut single ‘Hereby No One’. The single received airplay from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio One, was added to the XFM national playlist and was named ‘Single of The Week’ on XFM Manchester. The band also received mentions in press such as NME, Clash and Sandman.
Carlis Star are back in 2009 with a new batch of songs and will return to the live circuit this coming spring. The band will then go into the studio this summer to record an EP for release in autumn 2009.
