Biography

Skewen, Wales, United Kingdom

Bonnie Tyler (born Gaynor Hopkins on 8 June 1951- Skewen, Wales, United Kingdom) is a Welsh singer. Her first hit single, Lost In France, reached the UK Top 10 in 1976 and she was nominated for Best British Female Newcomer at the 1977 Brit Awards. Soon after, Tyler underwent an operation to remove nodules from her vocal cords which left her with a distinctively husky voice. However, this did not affect her career and her 1977 single It’s A Heartache became a hit in both Europe and North America.

In the 1980s, Tyler worked with rock music songwriter Jim Steinman, and she gained further international success with her number one hit Total Eclipse Of The Heart in 1983. Steinman also wrote Tyler’s last major British success, Holding Out for a Hero, which was featured on the Footloose film soundtrack in 1984. Tyler was nominated for three Grammy Awards in 1984, and was twice nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Female Artist in 1984 and 1986.

In the 1990s and 2000s, Tyler has continued to have success in Continental Europe with the singles Bitterblue and Fools Lullaby. Her 2003 single, Si demain… (Turn Around) (a duet with French singer Kareen Antonn), reached the top of the French charts for 10 weeks.

On 7 March 2013, the BBC announced that Tyler will represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden, on 18 May 2013, performing her new single Believe In Me. Her latest album, Rocks and Honey, was first released by ZYX Music on Friday, 8 March 2013.

Pretty honorable performance from the UK this year. Solid song, renown artist...unfortunately this formula will only go as far as it did tonight when it comes down to the points. Still among the best from those countries that qualified directly to the final, and hey, always a reason to smile when you finish up in front of the frogs.

Poor vocals live. Seems I guessed correct on my 15th May post when I said Norway (4th) and Denmark (1st!) would do better than Bonnie (19th) _ NEXT YEAR BBC- let the British public vote for our song and pick someone younger than 50. Cheers

Ok. Was stuck in motorway traffic most of yesterday and due to radio 2 hammering this track, I must admit the song is a grower. She isn't in my top ten but I will eat my words a little and say this is the best UK Eurovision song since Jade & Andrew Lloyd Webber did it. (I still think it will lose out to around 10 others including Denmark & Norway) (Sorry if I offended any Bonnie fans previously) :)

@Bonnietylersave - With a last.fm name like that I guess you are not at all biased. The 3 acts you mentioned that I like are much more current, credible and better singing live that Ms Tyler. Also they are under pensionable age. What Eurovision needs is young talent. Mark my words Demark and Norway will do a LOT better than Bonnie on the night as their songs are better and the artists are more modern than Bonnie. Don't get me wrong I like some Bonnie songs (but only from the 80s peak of her career.). I guess Europe will vote (Queue Bonnie fans blaming Europe's hatred of UK or political votes...). Sorry but the best song will win (and it won't be Bonnie's mediocre song).

Bonnie's rehearsal looks like it went great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bJR49F4H3s The platform rising for the climax of the song was epic. I'm very much looking forward to seeing her perform on Saturday. First UK Eurovision entry i'm proud of since I can remember. Go Bonnie!!!

I was about to take what dannyboy77 says seriously, then when I realised Girls Aloud, Lady Gaga and Diana Vickers are some of their top artists, I just can't take any of those words seriously :p naive, closed-minded, backward-thinking.

I hope the humanity will finally wake up from the 00s and 10s "pop" music nightmare.

I believe.. .you will get NIL points... :p - To be fair it's an ok song if she had released it back in the late 80s. Also I will always love her 'Total Eclipse..' song but disapointed she is singing in ESC for my country - Nobody voted for her. Look how last year's British OAP singer did!
