Biography

An expanded version of the groundbreaking racially integrated Benny Goodman Quartet, chiefly notable for incorporating pioneering electric guitarist Charlie Christian. This made it the first group in American jazz to give a guitar solo instrument space since the very different-sounding and much quieter handful of 1920s groups to use the acoustic instrument. Christian’s progressive tendencies also meant the group foreshadowed bebop.
