Rockville, Maryland

Brian Transeau (born Brian Wayne Transeau on October 4, 1971, in Rockville, Maryland) is an American musician who records under the stage name BT. Classically trained from the age of 13, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston for one year before dropping out and moving to Los Angeles, California, and then back to Washington, D.C…

From an early age, BT demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for playing and understanding classical music. He was heavily influenced by avant-garde and romantic composers such as Stravinsky, Bartok, Debussy and Rachmaninov. His biggest influences, however, were from everyday sounds that most would take for granted, from noticing the meter of the grandfather clock in the foyer to the micro-rhythms of crickets and cicadas to the ambience of passing trains at night.

The drive to actualize the tools BT envisions has led to his evolution as one of the most cutting-edge programmers and technologists in music today. He has expanded this reach into a visionary software venture, Sonik Architects which launched its critically- and commercially-acclaimed iPhone application, Sonifi™.

Brian Transeau is the father of a young daughter, Kaia. He lives and composes his works in his Los Angeles home/studio in which he has a few Apple G5’s and 8 AMD dual-core Opteron 64-bit desktops which he uses for his techno-wizardry.

BT has released 8 albums and has scored over a dozen films. His most critically acclaimed album, “This Binary Universe” (released August 29, 2006), was composed in 5.1 surround sound and contains animated videos for each song, presenting a new way of experiencing music.

I take back what I said about his recent TV and film score work being good. I just realised that the song from "Betrayal" is ripped off from his work with Nick Phoenix on the "300 Years Later" album and that was done in 2005... No recent good stuff it seems...

Uaz78, why is it necessary to "smear" him? - Because I've been a fan since 1997 (when I was 10 years old) and his standards are dropping. Just because I like a lot of his material does not mean I'm not allowed to dislike some of it too. I honestly wonder if he's gonna turn into the next Tiesto and completely sell out. I've been listening to a lot of his recent TV and film scores though and they are pretty decent. I love the work he did on "Betrayal". Really beautiful. So it's not all negative...

Liebe_Ist, you're so top-listener BT then what the hell it is necessary to smear him?? where your logic, when you wrote that comment? and I do not "blind fan" as you put it!'s just as well my favorite artist is like 6 years old, and I recently started skrobllit and internet I did not have ... so be accumulated at least 5000 auditions, counting those from your phone headphones.

I like much more his experimental and downtempo albums than his excursion to the dancfloor albums.

@crimsonmaestro How about you form your own opinion? ASAW is awesome, it showcases the diverse group of genres BT can produce, it's truly amazing.
