Ricky Simmonds and Steven Jones, 2 names which have appeared frequently under numerous guises including Space Brothers, Ascension, and Lustral, have been producing since 1995. Their uplifting euphoric trance/chillout styles have made an impact on everyone from John Digweed, to Paul Oakenfold & beyond.
(3): American Black Metal band founded by guitarist Caleb Bingham. In September of 2006 the band began pre-production on their debut album, “Until the End: A Soundtrack for Generation Armageddon.” Since then, Ascension has gained audiences worldwide with the release of their first single “The Left Hand Path”.

(5): The free-improv noise duo Ascension was an offshoot of the Skullflower/Ramleh collective. Tony Irving drummer and guitarist Stefan Jaworzyn perfrom intense free apocalyptic jazz/rock noise. Disbanded in the 90s.

I happen to think it is HILARIOUS that everyone is talking about some unspecified "Ascension" band without clarifying which genre they are referring to. This is great! So uhm, in agreement with the guy below, the TRUE Ascension is the power metal version, and it really annoyed me that the guy below made a jab at Dragonforce. Dragonforce is a great band, and it is EXACTLY what it wants to be, and the members are exactly as good as they think they are. If you don't like high-energy music with great melodies, soaring vocals, backup vocals, long guitar solos and technical playing, then fine, but Dragonforce hasw these qualities, all of which I love. The only "downside" is being forced to hear the endless whining of people who dislike Dragonforce because they have not heard more than one song, or because they cannot appreciate layered music or long guitar solos. Stop complaining. Listen to something else. Tens of thousands of bands from which to choose.

Ascension are going to be playing North of the Wall 2013 along with ten others for only £15! If you're interested in supporting the Scottish scene, you should make a point of checking this out: http://www.thenorthofthewall.com It's really, really difficult for metal bands in Scotland to get anywhere because people here don't turn up for underground gigs.

Not really a relevant comparison, considering the bands play totally different styles of black metal with only slightly shared lyrical themes, though I adore both bands
