Kinda hard to understand how you, Desire, can decide on someone's music when you have not listened to it? but still assume she sounds like Mavis Staples, which she does not. I saw the Staples Singers in '74 and have great love for them. How this has anything to do with Ann Peebles I will never know. And....Tina's recordings with Ike were completely different music than the stuff she came out with in the late 70's. If you are trying to say you have a better understanding of this than John Lennon, then you might need help.I think he'd be a better judge darlin'...

LOVES-DESIRE I'd heard of Ann Peebles, but did not listen to her Music, to me she sounded like Mavis Staples and I like Mavis Staples ...... BJBooth it's sad that she said in her autobiography that the Great Singer and Performer Tina Turner stole her act ...... Miss Turner, was already performing in the late 50's with Ike ...... Ann Peebles was not. Millie Jackson and Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner were better and more powerful singers than Ann Peebles - Mavis Staples does sing on Ann's recordings, I am listening to her now ...... Those 3 Ladies' Music is more descriptive in sound and style ...... Fans copying her work, that is what fans do, sometimes Fans are better than the actual Artists ..... In all forms of Art, the Artist is copied by their Fans - that is a compliment - in fact the best of compliment ..... Ann Peebles has made her mark on Music, maybe not as big as Tina, Millie, Aretha, and others - but she's mentioned ......

Here's a great story about Ann Peebles: back in'74 I believe it was, John Lennon walked into a local radio station with Ann Peebles tapes in hand, and took over the DJ controls. He then proceeded to play over 6 hours, simultaneously, of Ann's music and challenged the listening audience to do something about the lack of her popularity. She began to rise on the 'white' charts because of John's visit. Ann was forever in John's debit. Many people turned onto the Memphis sound, myself being one of them, expanding the popularity. By the way< Ann stated in her autobiography that she is still bitter that tina turner stole her act and fans copying her style.
