    • Patrizia Oliva

Allun were born in the summer of '98 in the squat CSA La Sede in Vigevano (Pavia, Italy), between the rice fields in the Po plain. Being in the gig-managing of this squat, the 4 girls of the original core (Stefania, Patrizia, Wanda and Katia), have the idea of start tehemselves to play. Since Katia is the only one who could play an instrument (bass), they decide to make their being non-musicians the start point of the band. Katia is put therefore on the instrument she can play less, the drums, Stefania on voice and guitar, Patrizia on bass and Wanda on household-electric and typewriter. So their approach is pure and lacking in any reference, criterion and intenzionality in the improvisation, so their first concerts are a bomb of unexpected success. The visual side moreover is very cared, with grandguignolesque disguises and performances before and during the live shows. Their first 7" released by Bar la Muerte in the April of '99, in a limited edition of 500 copies with different hand-made covers, and gets excellent reviews everywhere and concerts with people like Francois Cambuzat, Sainkho, One Dimensional Man, Melt Banana, Bz Bz Ueu. A privileged relationship with Topolin Edizioni (Brian The Brain, PsychoPathiaSexualis etc) is also created, for them they play some concerts.

The first cd is released in 2000 in coproduction Bar La Muerte and Snowdonia, has already been reprinted, has 6 different covers and has got equal critics success. The excessive engagement fo live shows (a minitour with label mate Bugo, another with American crusters Harum Scarum) takes Katia to split up first, then Patrizia too, who moved to Puglia. When everything seems to be lost here comes the prodigious French drummer Marylise, with whom they play at Leoncavallo's Offfest, a tour in Switzerland with Noisegate (ambient from USA) and an Italian tour with the great and unknown (in Italy) Zabloudil, a tribale improvisation band from Czech Republic.
Several Marylise's engagements as drummer and Wanda working as a restorer set the band to decline concerts in Italy, Europe and USA. Right now the line up is rather unstable again. But there are a lot of studio releases:
- cd-R for American label Slippy Town, featuring unreleased, live tracks and outtakes
- a cassette for Freedom From, american label specialized in deluxe cassettes with Thurston Moore, Beck, Cock ESP, Kevin Drumm on their catalogue…
- a live LP for italian Qbic
And finally the new cd "Onussen" is out now on Bar La Muerte. Recent concerts are going on a less musical way, with more space to performances: parading - Allun has set up a parade in February 2001 in Milan, without concert, and another miniparade with concert for household-electric, guitar and voice in Massa Carrara.
Is that Allun's future?
