Los Angeles, United States (2008 – present)

Allah-Las formed in Los Angeles in 2008 around a mutual love for records, Los Angeles history, and the beach. They are all surfers and cover the city from the East Side (Mt. Washington) to way out West (Venice Beach) - and their sound reflects the geography of the city. The group consists of Miles Michaud, singer and guitarist, Pedrum Siadatian, electric guitar and vocals, Spencer Dunham, Electric Bass and vocals, and Matthew Correia, drums, percussion and vocals.

Since coming together as a band, they have cut their teeth playing numerous California dates with groups like Entrance Band, Tyde, Tijuana Panthers, and the Growlers, and have garnered the approval of original UK Psych founding-father Patrick Campbell-Lyons (Nirvana). In the Los Angeles musical community, they have gained a reputation as a laid-back, grooving band with strong ties to the authentically LA-centric sounds of bands like the Byrds, Love, and early Captain Beefheart.

Haw haw... interesting band name. Although I hope IS/Taliban don't find out about them - they would issue a fatwah on them for having 'Allah' in their name.

I'm only the third song in on their self-titled album whilst actually LISTENING to it properly; and I fucking love it already. Aren't things great when you actually focus? I know that's obvious, but sometimes we forget such simple things.

This is so much like the early 70's! Surf, psych and alt country too! As for the latter, tracks like "Better Than Mine" are very reminiscent of New Riders Of The Purple Sage or Pure Prairie League .....

New album is good. But it seems like they put a lot of effort into nailing a sound and not enough effort into writing strong songs. Fun to listen to, but doesn't reward closer attention.

I'm not convinced. A pastiche is fine if it adds something to the original template. What Allah-Las seem to lack is any decent tunes unlike their influences who frequently had tunes in spades as anyone who plays "Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era" will quickly discover. I've played the latest album album "Worship The Sun" twice now and it all sounds so anodyne and makes me wonder 'What's the point of Allah-Las?'. I'm very interested in alternative views though....
